Please describe how to do this. Preventive maintence is always something I like to do to my SS. I have removed the inside door panels before. Thanks-

I wouldn't bother with it unless your windows are starting to slow down, but it definitely won't hurt it. The door panels come off and you reach in there and put grease on the tracks the windows travel up and down on. That's about as descriptive as I can be without showing where the tracks are, but you'll see them.

I recently changed mine. It probably took 2 hours for both window motors. The toughest part was taking everything off the door and finding the rivets. You can find step by step instructions on the internet that will help you. I definetly recommend changing them yourself if it needs to be done...shops will rape you on the price of changing them. Good Luck!

Is there really that much of a difference? How much do the power windows weigh?

well, i went from manual windows to power windows. so you will have to do what i did, but in reverse heh

what i did was get the entire unit as a whole (power window motor unit/regulator) and i took out the manual window crank assembly/regulator all as one peice and just replaced it with the power assembly.

if i was going to do it, i would get the entire assembly and swap it entirely out. i do not think the manual assembly is that much lighter then the power one. You will also need to drill holes in your door panel to accomidate the crank. (drill out all the rivits to get it out, take it off its track, etc etc, then getting it back on its track perfectly, lining it up so it the window seals properly, before re-riviting it.) once you start taking it apart, you will see what needs to be done.

the entire process is a HUGE pain, since your working near blind (cept for using a mirror) reaching in through the tiny access panels. you will need 2 people so the window doesn't come slamming down. make your life easier, just replace the motor using shoeboxs faq

Jon
