Re: Lunati vs hotcam vs custom grind

first off...return the maf and the programmer

maf is worthless and causes more problems during tuning
the programmer wont be very effective after installing the cam. you can just get a basic mail order tune for $250 or a dyno tune for probably $300

any of the cams in the 224* range on stock heads are good for 380-400 hp with bolt ons and tune

Re: Lunati vs hotcam vs custom grind

you must have a great life if you can afford 3 muscle cars! if i had your doe i would either drop in a crate ls6 (aprox $5200.) or port stock heads & cam. you could also port some ls6 heads. if you add a cam remember you have to get better springs. i think a great mild cam would be the stock ls6 (z06) 550lift,218 intake,204 exhaust dur. only costs about $220. i know lunati has just come out with a hollow cam/lighter weight. don't know details but sounds good.

Custom Cam (done by a good person) > Lunati > Hotcam. Do not buy an LS6 crate motor. For that money you have some options.

224/224 .581/.581 114LSA + Springs/Pushrods + Dyno Tune - Returned Programmer - Returned MAF = What I would do if your car is an auto.

224/224 .581/.581 112LSA + Springs/Pushrods - Returned MAF + Find someone with wideband O2 sensor and tune with Diablo = What I would do if your car is a 6spd.

Given the quircks of the auto trannies, I wouldn't feel comfortable trying to tune the car myself with the Predator.

The Crane programmer has some tables set up for various grinds of their cams, and you can fine tune it. You can get the same thing from vinci hi-performance. Get one of their cams and tuner, you're good to go.
Or, go to a local shop thats good w/LS1s. Take there recommendation on cam and have them tune it.

I agree, return that MAF and diablo.

Thanks for all the tips!

I cancelled the order on the MAF... Only reason I kept the Diablo is because I can easily wipe out any changes I made to the puter...

I Updated my sig but its an M6

Every body that dis's the Diablo apparently doesn't know the full capabilities. I got one because even after a custom tune (for free from the vendor) I still have a tool to fine tune shift points, fan temps, and on and on. It's also a live scanner and I can read and reset codes not only on the car that it's locked to but most any OBD II GM car that I hook it to. Like our 03 GMC truck.

yeah a good dyno tune is the best, but what if you want to tweak again later? Well you go back and pay some more.
A Predator is a great mid level hobbiest tuning tool.

Thats why I mentioned the Crane. It comes with several tunes in it, then you can fine tune from there.
