LT1 vs. LS1

hello all, its nice to be able to post again after my computer has been down for like a month.....

2 questions.......

i just put a down payment on a 98 Z28 A4....i assume with 2.73s
- 45K miles
- indigo blue with tan leather int.
- t-top
- full power....
- flawless body/paint
1.) is $14K a good price?????

also...2.) coming off a healthy LT1 A4 with 3.23s...what kind of actual performance gains should i get out of it???? 3 tenths maybe???? more???

An LS1 will WALK an LT1. Being a 98 it will probably have around 290 rwhp. Lid and cutout probably around 20 rwhp or so. I would say 14k is a decent price. Try and get it a little lower though. Offer em $12k then meet em in the middle.

it'll feel like a turd until you get to about 3K rpms. it's not like the LT1 where you feel it pulling the minute you hit the gas.

it's actually a very manageable motor.

I just bought a 98 Z28 A4, navy blue metallic with t-tops, 59K and all the options for $12,200, so you could probably talk them down a little bit. as for the power, I have owned 3 LT1 cars and the LS1 is deffinately more powerful, quicker, and funer to drive IMO. but you can go wrong either way

my uncle used to have an LT1, and even though it feels real powerful and sounds mad torqish (ehh, thats not a real word, but w/e), it's still not as strong as an LS1. LS1's have a dope feel to them... and the faster you go, the doper they feel lol

I'd take that, although its probably an automatic with 200k miles right?

Yeah, prices for LS1s are very affordable now.

I'd pay about 11K for a '98, based on the prices I have seen advertised.

An auto LS1 is quick, but it won't blow you away. Sure, it's got an edge on an A4 LT1..but it's probably only about as fast as an M6 LT1. Untouched, that is. It should run high to mid 13s at around 101-104 mph. Some run faster, but your average Joe is going to run in that range.

The best thing about an LS1 is the potential. You can run 12s with hardly spending anything. And it's so damn smooth.

And I've seen '97 and '98 vettes for around 20K now. That's awesome!
