lt1 to ls1 - what parts are interchangable?

Note: I posted this over in the LT1 forum, but I thought I should post here as well, to get a good mix of both biased opinions. Also, nobody over there has actually answered any questions yet.. just said how they'd all keep their LT1s and put the 3000 into them.

Anyway, onto my post:

I'm thinking about selling my lt1 in favor of the ls1 platform.

I have some uninstalled parts, and think they would be put to better use on my new car if possible, as I'll probably lose a lot selling them.

I hope somebody can just write back with some Yay or Nays for each part:

Delphi 42# injectors
Walbro 355lph
Lunati Forged 4340 Crank - Stock LT1 stroke.. I know the ls1 is a 346..
Eagle Forged 4340 Rods - Same deal, stock length. Where do the cubes go on ls1?
C5 Brakes - I know these will fit on the LS1 if I get the mounting bracket. Would the same bracket even work on the LT1?

Also, are LS1s 2 bolt main or 4 bolt? If 4, are they splayed?

Finally, does anyone here think its a better idea to continue to build the LT1 than it is to step up to the LS1? Note: I'd be spending about 3 grand out of pocket when selling my car to go to an LS1.

Thanks in advance for any input you guys might have!

Re: lt1 to ls1 - what parts are interchangable?

So does anyone know if ls1s are 2 or 4 bolt and splayed or no?

All camaro ls1s are aluminum right?

What about cranks, rods and pistons? Forged or cast crank/rods? Hyper-crap-tic or forged aluminum pistons? Etc?

LS1's are 6 bolt mains. The crank is supposed to be good for gobbs of power. Someone will chime in there. I think 1000 hp but, could be wrong. The pistons are not forged, Sadly. Also, the LT1 is still based off of the typical small block chevy whereas the LSX motors are a whole new design. That is why the parts arne't interchangeable. Hope that helped and good luck in what you decide.

Re: lt1 to ls1 - what parts are interchangable?

It's a tough decision to make.. but things like the LS1 being a 6 bolt lean me in that direction.

There is so much work that needs to be done to my lt1 car to make it reliably do what I want.

The entire engine would need to be re-worked. Probably thousands in labor.

Speaking of that, one more thing I didn't ask, are LS1s sleeved stock?

I would still need to replace a lot of parts on an LS1 car, but I feel like the 3000 would equal out, and then I'd have the advantage of an engine which had an inherently better design...

Yes, fairly thin sleeves from my understanding.

The lifters are the only real engine part that is the same (I have no idea if plugs or injectors are, but if they do I would not be suprised), and the bore spacing of 4.4 inches. Everythig else is a different platform. The LS1 is an aluminum block with cast in iron liners. They are good for a clean up bore for the most part. The biggest advantage to the LS1 are in the cylinder head, and cam journal area. Of course with limitless funds the potential of either motor is similar. However, if you are staying with bolt-ons up through heads and cam, the LS1 should deliver more power.

The reason the LS1 has six bolt caps is the aluminum block. It is really no stronger than the four bolt LT1 set-up.

http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/50638/index.html

The LS1 main caps are powdered metal and significantly stronger than the LT1’s cast caps.
