lt1 to ls1 swap
I'd check out the "Hybrid and Conversions" Forum at LS1TECH.COM. When I did my LS1 swap it's where I found an overwhellming amount of information and there are many knowledgable members to help you through any problems you may encounter.

I've been toying with this for my car as well.
Any chance you can give a basic list of major pieces required and a ballpark price to complete the project?
Whats involved in making the instrument cluster work?
I realize anything is doable with the right amount of time/cash. I'd just like an idea of what I'm getting into before I start collecting. I did a swap from auto to manual on my 95 now, plus some other upgrades. Basically if you had to do it again, would you just buy a 98+ and swap the nose *L* for the 93-97 look?

There is no way to quote a price for the swap. It depends on a lot of things. I bought a wrecked 2002 TA and transfered most of the pieces. I had to buy a T56 because the car had an A4 that I didn't want.
I have way too much in my car as far as mods. Brakes, suspension, interior, stereo, etc. buying a 98+ was not real smart for me cost wise.
I bought this for $2600:

Spent about $113 for a low miles T56, clutch, and hydraulics. I also spent about $1500 for headers and a cam for the LS1. I made about $3000 selling my engine, trans, and other LT1 parts and mods on the engine. I also parted out the TA.
This is what I ended up with:

Honest...It really is a 94 Z28. Did I mention that I like the 98+ front end better.
If you have a real nice car that you have a lot in I'd consitter the swap. If your car is a heap and needs a lot of other work as well, then you will probably be ahead by buying a 98+ LS1 powered Camaro. They are getting real cheap.
The LT1 gauges will work fine if you get a temp sending unit from a 98 and have the PCM programed for the correct tach output.

Wow, nice score. $2600 seems really cheap considering you should be able to get that out of the engine/drivetrain/computer. I've seen other guys on the board get scores like that, is that kinda normal?
I've spent a bunch of my car as well, and it's in good condition so I would rather put an LS1 in.
I just spent some time and went through your gallery in your sig. Very impressive the amount of time and work you've put into that car. Did you paint that at your house? Base/clear? Paint looks nice. Real nice job.

thanks for the info, yes i think its better to get a ls1 camaro or firebird.there is a 98 camaro in my neighborhood for sale but its not cheap,60,000 mile just rebuilt engine with zo6 ported heads and a cam from texas speed,6 speed headers etc for 12,000 seems high but its low miles and clean.what do you guys think

I'm doing the swap right now, prices vary for different parts depending on if you get them new or used but here is what I have come up with so far. I'm only halfway through the swap.
LS1 Motor
LS1 T-56(can't use the LT1 T56)
LS7 Clutch and hydraulics
LS1 steering shaft and knuckle
LS1 Power steering pump(you can use LT1 but mine was bad anyways so I swapped them)
Aeromotive Fuel pressure regulator and run a braided line up from LT1 tank
Headers and Catback
LS1 PCM and Wiring harness rigged from Speartech to plug and play with LT1 gauges.
LS1 starter and alternator
LS1 K member
I think thats about it! Seems like alot of stuff but the swap is running me right at 7,000 right now. I sold my old motor and trans for 4,000 so I was lucky to knock out a big portion of it right off the bat. Got a hold of a 01 Corvette motor for 2K and a LS1 t56 for 1500.
