LT1 to LS1 swap

I'm trading in my Z28 for an 02, and I wanted to know what are some cheap mods that I could do. I know to get a lid, but which one? I was thinking about a loudmouth also, but after that I have no idea. what else could I do for about $300?

Well, in terms of lids, I don't know that there's really "one" lid that is "the best" one.......I've got the LS1 Motorsports "Direct-Flo" lid, and it seems to fit o.k. and work well too (lots of guys on this board have the Direct-Flo lid as well). "Whisper" lids also seem to be pretty popular (and I think they're all in the same price range --- it just depends on the looks I guess?!)

In regards to exhaust?? A lot of guys seem to like the sound of the Loudmouth exhaust, so if the "sound" is what you're looking for, I'd say it's probably a good route (although I've never actually heard one first hand).

Gears will certainly be a good place to invest some money too --- especially if you've got an A4 with 2.73's!! Once you're moving they're o.k., but off the line they make the car a little sluggish. A lot of guys go with high-stall converters, and stick with the 2.73's, but I'd rather go with lower gears and factory stall --- otherwise you have to install a separate tranny cooler (which isn't really a bad thing!) but it's still harder on the transmission.

HTH.

1st mods should be:

* free mods (home ported MAF, opened airbox bottom, cut radiator shield, etc)
* lid (get a holley filter, not K&N - K&N gasket SUCKs)
* asp pulleys (alt/crank for M6, crank only for A4)

those could/should put you into the 12s with a stick.

for an auto your next buy should be a Torque Converter, that'll get ya pretty deep into the 12s

for a stick, get a replacement shifter (Pro5.0!) and a cam (Thunder Racing!) or maybe headers for the same amount of money as the TC in an auto... and then you'll fly - but then start saving for a clutch ASAP, mine is toast at 17,000 miles!

And dont forget the SubFrameConnectors and some shocks for your car too. The stock shocks are horrid - get Bilsteins or better yet Konis, and the SLP bolt in SFCs work incredibly well and install fast.

I have bought most of my stuff used off of this board, just beware the newbie!!!!!!! Make sure the guy has a good amount of post under his belt and do a little background on him (search his post). I have save alot of money that way. I only payed 350 for my borla and it only had 2k on it So new is not always the best. Good luck and congrats
