Thinking of buying a LS1!

Has anybody here owned a LT1 4th gen and bought a LS1 powered 4th gen? I'm considering selling my LT1 and getting a LS1 T/A WS6 M6. What year of the LS1's was best and what do they usually dyno and run in the 1/4? Which do you like better(LS1 or LT1)? Thanks!

Cool

All motors are awesome, but the '98-'00 cars seem to dyno a little lower than the '01-'02 cars due to the LS6 intake. My 1998 A4 dyno'd 299/314 with a lid and catback. Most 01's and '02's dyno around 310 stock. The only advantage us '98's have is that we're cheaper to buy and a LS6 intake is only $350

I had a '97 Z28 M6 and went to the LS1. No contest..LS1 is superior in all ways I think. Some will argue that it has a bad low end torque but it surpases the LT1 in so many ways that it really doesn't matter...atleast not to me. Good luck.

I agree with 6speedZ28... There is nothing about my old car (other than the light weight) that I like better than my new car.
Just as a reminder, there's no more optispark!
Look at my sig for 1/4 times and mods on old car, my newer car is stock.

no optispark!

that's a good point Nathan, no optispark! I have heard that it takes a lot of work to get an LT1 to run with an LS1. With FLP long tubes and borla cat-back as well as a stealth air box, do you think a LS1 would run in the 12's? just wondering. There's a guy in town who owns www.fasttoys.net and he's got a 98Z that runs 11's. He's got a supercharger and not much else!oh yeah, and that's his winter/bad weather car! He's got a C5 for summer! Kinda makes me want an LS1 even more! Thanks guys for your help!

Well, mine ran a 13.3 completely stock with 12k miles (crappy 60' time, as well). I expect I could squeeze another .1-.2 out of it with some decent driving. I'd also say long tubes and a lid would easily be 12.7-ish.

the LT1 is the same size engine and it does have better low end torque for crusing speeds. Plus it seems everyone has an Ls1 now, but the Ls1 does look better under the hood and has about 30 more HP. I bet That 97 you've got is a sweet car, i would not sell that. it's not worth fooling with IMO. The LT1 is an awesome engine too. I would not trade myself.

Only 2 things I liked my about the 96 LT1 I had over the 02 I had and 98Z I have now. The low end grunt. And DEFINTELY the sound. My 98 Z sounds like a boat anchor. My LT1 with the flowmaster catback was sweet. And to be honest. I haven't really heard a good sounding LS1 that wasn't at least cammed up. I don't know why they sound the way they do. I also hate the rasp the LS1's make. I haven't heard any LT1's with rasp. Especially the one I had didn't have any rasp.

Edit: I like the LT1 almost as well as my LS1's. I put in a 218/230 CC and was beating stock to mild LS1's. Not bad IMO.

Its common attitude because its true.

I dont know exactly what you mean by this, but if you are trying to say that the LS1 is slower than an LT1 you are just plain wrong. Fact, take an LS1 and LT1 f body (stock, with drivers of equal skill of course) and race them, and the LS1 WILL win. unless maybe it breaks something...

I've experienced both worlds!

I used to have an Lt1(check the sig) I had a lot of bolt ons and this thing hauled ***. I totalled that one and bought a 99 Z M6. I can definately notice the loss of low end torque in my ls1 but the top end is beautiful. I am going to add the ol 410 gears to compensate for that though. Both awesome cars but the ls1 is just faster. I wish I knew why????????

To be honest I like an LT1 because it is the last of the traditional small block 350. An LS1 is totally different. However Chevrolet makes bad *** motors. You really can't go wrong with a LT1 or an LS1. Also you can get The new 5.3L complete with motor and tranny with about 15k miles for around $1500. Soon as I my LT1 takes a **** that is what I owuld like to do. Put it in an 93-97 Camaro, and you would be right there with the LS1. Pretty much the same motor. You can't go wrong with a CHEVY!
