if you plan on doing more mods to the car than yes. look for a used one. for a cheap and great sounding exhaust, get a cutout welded in.

Re: ls6 intake

dyno proven 8-10 hp gains on stock to mild bolt on cars.

some people have claimed as much as 20hp on more heavily modded cars

but i'd say 10 is pretty solid

Re: ls6 intake

Before doing the LS6 intake, get LT headers and catback exhaust. You will see a much bigger gain in the intake after mods like the LT, catback or cutour, or possibly a cam if your going in the N/A direction.

Re: ls6 intake

first off i think you wAnt the word "want" not "wont"

now

i agree with the above. at least get a good catback. or possibly a cutout for when you are out cruising the town, but then you can cap it for roadtrips to keep the drone down.

headers are not a bad idea, but are getting $$ and are a hassle if you wanna have them installed by a shop.

i think the LS6 intake is a good next step, possibly an underdrive pulley.

hard to say if you'll feel each of those mods...10hp is not easily noticed...even though some guys will tell you they felt a 2hp mod

how bout some suspension upgrades to make the spirited driving a bit more fun in the corners?

#1 subframe connectors

#2 struts/shocks

After that, it depends on what you want out of the car.

i think sway bars would be a better bang for your buck as far as suspension

Not if you want to drag race.

The 2 suspension mods I listed will help whether you want to drag or handle great.

i would not waste time or money on underdrive pulley's. it will give minimal gains and could cause problems for your car. just go the route of a lid, 3" catback of sorts, and some nice cheap longtubes and then you will have a pretty good performing car. those are some basics you can do to start off with, i am looking to get some FLP longtubes for mine, and i am going to have LS1 speed install for me..... from my experience they are a great company and i have had them do work in the past. on a side note, not to hijack the post, but what can i look to spend for longtubes install on my '99?

Re: ls6 intake

i hate it when i brake hard and the car sways back and forth for a second... then it lurches if you step on it at all...

defin. wish i had a tighter suspension...

my moms audi and stepfathers porche don't even feel like the nose goes down 1 inch when you hit the brakes... and when you finally come to a stop... no sway at all. its a great feeling... those thing stop on a friggen dime too.. specially the porche. i mean... its like you have the gravity of a huge gas planet behind you... just pulling you back... doesn't feel like normal braking

i love it.

what do i need to do to get the ws6 like that?

Better breaks for 1, at least more performance oriented pads. There is a kit to put Vette calipers and rotors on f-bodies, but it isn't cheap yet cheaper than Baer. Better tires will also shorten your stopping distance.

For handling, SFC 1st and good struts/shocks. Sway bars would help and stiffer springs would help with nose dive, or just get a coil over set up. Your best bet would be to get a complete suspension kit if you want to go all out. Or...wait around for deals on used stuff to pop up.

You have to realise those 2 cars are built for handling. They have more braking for their mass and are better balanced.

Re: ls6 intake

hmm... i just want it to be tighter... not a autocrosser. stiffer springs and struts sounds good. SFC's would be nice.... but honestly... i care about other things more for the money.

how much would a quality... but not ALL OUT suspension upgrade, run me? a 1-1.5 inch drop wouldn't be bad either

Re: ls6 intake

keep in mind that without a better suspension, you wont get all your power to the ground.

SFC will help at the track and if you have T-Tops, will save your body from twisting too much.. get LCA's and if you are going to lower the car LCA relocation brackets..

all the power in the world means nothing if you are just sitting there spinning..
