LS6 crate engine

Has anyone ordered an LS6 crate engine (GM P/N 12562190) and installed it? If so, what did you think of it? How well did it mate with your SS or Z28, especially the exhaust system? Thanks.

I have a friend that blew his LS1, so he dropped in an LS6. It went right in no problems! But his trans and rear didn't last long after He had the dealer do the work so he has a warrenty on the engine and everything!

Unhappy

Wish I had $7K+++ to drop one into my engine bay...

In the meanwhile, I'll just be happy with my lowly LS1...

if i blew my engine, i wouldn't get an ls6 - i'd get something better for probably the same price. with the money i'd be spending on a ls6, i could spend it on a 500+hp 427 ci or get that Chevy ZZ502 engine for about 7-8 grand installed... something like that, or maybe something even better, lol

Yeah, if you blow your motor spending 7K+ on an LS6 motor isnt the wisest decision. MTI has 427 shortblocks right now for cheaper than that.

Question Pass Smog

My standard question

Will a 427 CI after market engine be california smog legal?

If so I may be starting a 427 engine fund

Always add $2500-$3000 on top of any stroker shortblock. Your going to need stage 3 heads with any large stroker. Then you add at least another grand on top of that just for the fuel system.

But I do agree that there is no point in buying a crate engine if your LS1 blew. Buy a built short block of some sort.

Judging by the responses, no one has actually done the swap, but for one response that said a friend tried it successfully. If anyone gets more info, let me know. I'd like some details.

By the way--RP Motorsport of Atlanta will build you a 425CI LS1 for 16,000, core required. If you really wanted a built 427, especially using that killer C5-R block, you'd pay 30K for a professional job. The LS6 is much cheaper than most built engines, and comes with a full GM warranty!
