LS6 block and comp

does any 1 know if the LS6 block and comp that was "slipped" into '01-'02 f-bodies has anymore power/torque than the standard LS1? if so how much. I have a '02 Z28 35th ann. edition 6speed. it has the LS6 block and comp. i know that its the LS6 stuff because i have GM check it out and they said yes. any help would be appreciated.

I don't think it has direct power advantages. Pyschocabbage knows a good amount about the LS6 block, if he doesn't chime in a search would bring it up.

Re: LS6 block and comp

The LS6's aluminum block casting deletes machined holes in the LS1 bulkhead and adds cast-in "windows" that allow better bay-to-bay breathing. On the down stroke, the pistons push air back toward the crankcase, creating back pressure that translates into parasitic power loss. With the windows, air is allowed to move more freely between crankcase bays, reducing back pressure.

That's it...nothing more.

And that only comes into effect at high rpms.

so does the comp from the LS6 not matter?

as far as i know there is nothing unique to the ls6 computer programming, say of maybe not having provisions for EGR.

it has also been argued that the tolerances on the ls6 are a bit tighter, possibly contributing to more hp.

It also has provision for the electronic throttle, I'm fairly sure that the 'LS6' block LS1's don't run any different programming than the LS1 blocks of the same year. They do have closer fits on the main bearings and pistons, to reduce cold rumble and slap. Can't say any improvement is evident on mine. THere'll be no power gain from those changes, unless maybe a little from better piston ring stability keeping up the compression. Main change is reduced windage losses as mentioned.
