LS1 won't start

Got a 98 Z28. Was pulling out from a light and felt the car act like it was running out of gas. Looked at the gas guage and saw I was on E. Couldn't make it to the gas station before the car quit. Put 3 gal of gas in it but it still won't start. Gas guage now reads 1/8 tank. Took the cap off the valve on the end of the fuel rail. Doesn't seem to be any pressure there.

Are there any tests I can do on the fuel pump to see if it's working? I remember being able to jump some teminals on the older f bodys to turn on the pump. Didn't know if there was something similar I could do on the LS1's.

Any help appreciated.

OUr fuel pumps need fuel to keep cool while running. Hitting empty drastically increases the chance of frying the pump, and that's what it sounds like you did.

Turn the key on, but not to start. Listen for the fuel pump to prime(whining sound). Go from there.

An easy test is spray starting fluid in TB and turn her over. If she starts you know the fuel pump is shot.

I normally fill up at 1/4-1/8 tank, but my mind has been preoccupied with other things lately.

Will try what you said and let you know what I find.

Thanks again.

Shot some starting fluid in the TB and it started.....then died. Also listned to the tank (from underneath) while the wife turned on the ignition......couldn't hear anything. Looks like its the pump. Thanks for the help.

Replaced the pump this morning. Car started and ran fine but the SAS light was on. Reset the ECU and everything seems to be fine so far.

Thanks again for the help.

Ya......the SES light. Brain fart on my part. And speaking of that..........

The SES light came back on. Code P0449, EVAPORATIVE EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM VENT VALVE/SOLENOID CIRCUT MALFUNCTION.

If I reset the light, it stays off the very next time I start the car. But the second time I start the car after resetting, I get the light.

Anyone have any ideas on what it could be??????

Thanks.

Nevermind. Went back under the back of the car to double check my work and found a connector I didn't hook up. It's all good now.
