LS1 vs LT1
I have owned a 96 Formula with the LT1 and now own a 99 Trans Am with the LS1. Both were stock when I bought them. The LS1 is definatly faster than the LT1. As for the difference the only one I know of is the LT1 is heavier made of iron I believe. The LS1 is Aluminum.
if im not mistaken...
LT1 Info:
93-95
Z28 - 275 hp @ 5,000 rpm / 325 lb-ft @ 2,000 rpm
SS - SS package on the Z28 didn't come out till 96
96-97
Z28 - 285 hp @ 5,000 rpm / 325 lb-ft @ 2,400 rpm
SS - 305/310 hp @ 5,500 rpm / 325 lb-ft @ 2,400 rpm
LS1 Info:
98-00
Z28 - 305 hp @ 5,200 rpm / 335 lb-ft @ 4,000 rpm
SS - 320 hp @ 5,200 rpm / 345 lb-ft @ 4,200 rpm
01-02
Z28 - 310 hp @ 5,200 rpm / 340 lb-ft @ 4,000 rpm
SS - 325 hp @ 5,200 rpm / 350 lb-ft @ 4,200 rpm
the LT4 that came in the 97 ss was a dope *** engine...
LT4 Info:
1997
SS - 330 hp @ 5,800 rpm / 340 lb-ft @ 4,500 rpm
my data should be correct... if it's not, then instead of the torque being at 4,200 rpms for the LS1 SS, it's at 4,000 rpm.

The ls1 really makes 330-350hp
the lt1 makes 275-295hp
simply the ls1 has a better head and is lighter.
The LT1 is NOT faster than the ls1 like you said.
Here is a link that will give you some good info..
Im not goin to leave this thread open because of the childesh debates it starts
