ls1 true horspower rating?

Hey guys I have a 96 SS and I know that what it dynos out at it is a lot lower than the 310 that it claims.
I have considered getting an ls1 based f-body but i want to know is i have heard that ls1 are very underated do to the corvette and GM didn't want the numbers being to close.
how much horsepower would you guyz say is really under the hood?

Thanks for your time?
Brian

1998-99s 280-290rwhp
2000s around 300rwhp
2001-02s 300-320rwhp
All LS1 F-bodies are underrated. How much is a matter of year and options.

Your '96 shouldnt be overrated. Have you had it dynoed? Stock you should dyno somwhere around 260rwhp stock on a dynojet which would put you right around 300 at the crank, exactly what it was rated at.

Upgraded exhaust mostly....01-02's got the ls6 intake.btw there were plenty of 98's that dyno'd over 300 hp...Lowest on the totem pole were 280-290 rwhp. The LT1 SS's do seem to put down a little more power then the base Z (unlike the LS1)...I saw some guy on here a few weeks back that dyno'd 272 rwhp bone stock in his 97ss...W/ a 6spd you should be somewhere in the 260 area or above..

Re: ls1 true horspower rating?

The 2000 LS1 F-bodies got the cast exhaust manifolds, which picked up a few HP...

Wow. 260 rwhp stock. That sucks for me I guess. I spent all that money and picked up a ****ty 18 horsepower. I thought stock Lt1's were more around the 235-250 rwhp on a dynojet.

My LT1 put down 264 hp 299 tq when it was stock. The older single cat cars were a little less.

I was under the impression that the '98 and '99s had the more aggressive cam.

The SS came with SLP's 2 on the left catback and a cold air induction system. They should dyno an ~10hp over a base Z28.

Re: ls1 true horspower rating?

98 only car with a actually good working coolant temp gauge
98 best pcm
98-00 better cam
01- 02 less aggresive cam b/c of no egr
01-02 better intake ( ls6 )
00-02 better exhaust manifolds
02 SS cars got the ls2
01- 02 243 are the better heads
this is all the knowledge i have picked up since owning my 99z

No 02 SS camaros got LS2s. The LS2 wasnt even released until 2005. I think you mean that some of the 02 cars got LS6 blocks.
