An LS1 does have a 50 rwhp advantage on an LT1. Also, an LS1 engine is lighter than an LT1. So, I guess that adds up to 5-10 mph for top speed.

Cody, are you inferring that an LT1 has a drag advantage on an LS1?

Whats "funny" about top speed, is it is more dependant on aero and horsepower, than weight - which shows up more in ET.

true, dat. unless, of course, you have a rocket powered salt-flat special that is ALWAYS accelerating REALLY hard ( ) then weight becomes a factor again.

some ppl are just plain crazy.

I dont plan on any 600 MPH runs, so I am not going to bother investigating

One problem to deal with is downforce, which inevitably means your going to add some drag, although probably not much if done right. Next thing is just pure horsepower, it takes maybe 100 HP for a car to do a little over 100, and it could take maybe 550+ HP or so to hit 200. Dont forget some good shocks to boot, I know my Koni DAs rock up to 150, but have never gone past that yet...

Those salt flat guys run skinnies too, and I want grip, but that'll cost you a little speed.

No LS1 is doing 180mph without some serious mods.

And belive it or not there really is only a 3-4mph top speed difference in LT1 vs LS1.

hey, i dont know how in the hell you guys are going this fast. My car at full throttle in fifth gear towards redline is like 135-140, then i have to shift to sixth, which cant pull itself out of its own urine puddle . So you guys with Standard trannys, how are you doing it?

Something is up with your car if your redline in 5th is 135??? With 3.42s and a stock tire size, redline in 5th is 181 MPH.

I assume you must be running 4.56s? In which case, when you go to 6th your out of your powerband, and you wont have the HP to pull 201 MPH.

Didn't say it could..only said that that's where redline is. Whether or not the car can do it, redline stays the same.

Also, the guy said that he's at 135 to 140 mph towards redline..not necessarily at redline. He should be close to 5000 rpm by that speed, right? That's close enough to redline to remember..especially if you don't go there much.

With 150hp stock on my '86 TA 5spd with the 5.0 LO(carb) 140k mi I hit 140+ many times. Only mod was a 3in. flowmaster catback.

My '99 is alot faster though . Only hit 130 so far, but wind noise from driver window gets pretty loud. Sounds like this window pulls away from the body, anyone else have this?

My numbers were rough estimates, but it seems strange that it takes another 125HP for a 4th gen to do "only" 15-18 MPH more.

Remember that the 5.0 Fox Body could not break into the 150 MPH range until they duct taped the front, and that was an over 200 HP car.

So what is redline in 6th I might put on a helmet and give it a shot. Sure beats getting killed by a drunk driver.
