Ls1 running a little hot...

I need some help here. It's a 98 z28 and has been in perfect running condition, never overheated. With the ac on the fans would come on automatically, ac off, they would kick in at the correct points.

It went into the dealers, got a new ac compressor, belt and idler pulley. Now, the fans only kick in when the temp hits around the 235 F* Mark. When I switch on the ac, no fans like before.

Ill take it back to the dealer but really want to know what they could have done to cause this. Just incase they try and tell me it was like that...

Appreciate the help.

They might have removed the fans to do the work and forgot to plug both back in. Crawl under there and see if they are both hooked up. Could save you a trip back to the shop.

Ok, crawled under and they were both connected. Started the car and turned the ac on, and BOTH fans came on.

So if it's not the fact that one fan isn't spinning at all, then it must be something to do with the high/low temp thing? Anyone shed some light on that?

could be multiple different things. hard to tell without looking at the car myself. If both fans are operating as intended and your positive that the engine fan doesnt come on until 235 then it could be a coolant temperature sensor sending the wrong information. If the fan came on at the right temp and it was still running a little hot i would say maybe a partially stuck thermostat.

Started the car and let it run without the ac on. Fans kicked in at the right times (low and high speed) and the needle still kept creeping up to the red.

Took it to the dealer, they confirmed fans are working properly so are suggesting the thermostat. Am I right to argue that if they change the t/stat and it's not the problem, I shouldn't pay for that? They can put my old one back in, right?

Also, when it had the ac job, they changed idler pulley and belt - possible they have done something to alter the flow of the water pump?

This is doing my head in cause I really don't wanna start shelling out $ on this thing!

It was the thermostat. Coincidence? Or could something they done caused it to go?

Anyway, no more overheating, cold ac and I've got it back!
