LS1 problem areas?
LS1 problem areas?
I'm considering buying a 2000 Z28 6-speed from a private seller. It has 70,000 miles on it and was driven year-round.
When I get to this guy's house and look over the car, are there any engine-related things I need to check out? For instance, if it were an LT1 car, I'd check the condition of the optispark. (LS1 doesn't use optispark, does it?). That's the sort of info I'm looking for.
Thanks guys!

Re: LS1 problem areas?
My '02 SS needed a new waterpump with only 33K miles (under warranty, the dealer may have been padding, though). Check for seepage or leaks, it's right up front up high on the block face. The danged pulleys and/or tensioner make all kinds of noise, but I'm living with it.
Mine doesn't have this piston slap that is often mentioned on this board, but maybe your prospect does. Check that out.
It's a stout motor.

Re: LS1 problem areas?
The LS1 is basically fool proof. Some complain of piston slap others never have it. My car has 80k on the dot and i have never had pistion slap. Other then the mods on my car the only thing i have had to replace is thermostat, and the alternator
