Question LS1 Motorsports claims.....

LS1 Motorsports claims in one of their ads that they make the highest flowing airlid in the market. Is this true? They also claim according to this ad that you can get 20 horsepower in ten minutes.......2 tenths of a second improvement in the 1/4 mile and the lid only costs $129.......????????? Is this true?

I was going to buy MTI's carbon fiber lid until I read this ad. Well, is the LS1 Motorsports lid the highest flowing lid in the market?

Do you feel the difference with this lid? Is it good in quality?

Thanks.

you'll get closer to 8-12 rwhp I don't know about it being THE highest flowing lid but for $129.00 thats not a bad price. I paid 300 for my Volant and got 17 rwhp on the dyno, with super sucker ram air kit.

I paid $150 for my Whisper Motorsports lid, so the price sounds good. I'm sure Direct Flo, Whisper, SLP, and anyone else would swear their lid flows best.

Question Who knows then?

Well they're the only LS1 after-market supplier to claim to make the best flowing direct flow airlid......does anyone know if this information is true????

No dyno to prove much, but I have the LS1motorsports unit and there is a big SOTP difference. Also am very pleased with the fit and craftsmanship of the piece. I think 20hp and .2 seconds are a bit much, especially since my best 1/4 times and MPH were on the OEM airbox.

On a ricey side note: Just make sure you get in your request for the right decal color (it doesnt seem to come off) I have silver on my black Z, but a buddy has red on his SOM SS and hates the color clash.

Best ET on the stock airbox? WTF? As far as the sticker goes the Whisper one comes off easily, I'll be replacing it with the factory coolant label.

Don't get all caught up in this "highest flowing lid" stuff. The Direct-Flo lid is very good IMHO. I had it on my last Z and I've already ordered one for my new Z. But as for comparison to the Whisper, MTI, or SLP, they'll all roughly be within 1-2rwhp of each other. Dyno's have proven this time and time again. And no, you will NOT see a 20rwhp gain with this lid or any other for that matter. Probably more like 8-10rwhp on a stock car. Sorry, but every manufacturer seems to make higher claims of power than what their products "really" put out.

BTW, the Direct-Flo lid should still be on sale for $95.00 at LS1 Motorsports. That is the price I got when I ordered my lid last week.

If you are judging power gains by comparing ET's you are doing it all wrong.

MPH is what you want.

20 hp is at the flywheel, not the rear wheels. If you go to the "MoreInfo" Button

http://www.ls1motorsports.com/DirectFloInfo.htm

The claim 10-15 rwhp and have seen as much as 17rwhp.

Of course this all depends on the car. If the car already had all the exhaust/headers blah blah blah, then you are obviously going to see more gains over a stock lid.

I had an LS1 motorsports lid and then ordered an SLP lid. I didn't get a chance to dyno the car with the ls1 lid to compare, but I couldn't notice any real difference while driving (even quite aggressively, long peroids of WOT). I went to the SLP because they have the connection for the vent line that runs to the airbox on the 2001 and 2002 cars. That was the only reason. It took me 5 minutes to install either one. Not sure if that helps, but I thought I'd toss it out here for you.

Just bought my lid from LS1 Motorsports. When you get it , it says up to 12 h.p. to the rear wheels, must be 20 at the crank. But it is on sale for $95 , good deal.

The 17rwhp/22rwtq increase was on my friend's 99 30th TA (Bone stock down to the paper filter!). I was there in person at the dyno, and swapped the lid out for him. That was the only mod. He gained about .3 and 2 mph with the lid only!

Fast Toys did a flow test on all the lids and the Direct-Flo from LS1 Motorsports won.

Can you choose what lettering you want on the LS1motorsport lid. Like LS1, or Z28. I saw what I think was a SLP lid that said "SLP".

The Direct-Flo normally says LS1 Motorsports on it, but it's a decal. You can change that if you like. Other lids say different things.
