Talking Ls1 to Ls6 SWAP! in Trans Am!

Hey guys i got a question for everyone i have a 1998 Trans Am and i spun 3 bearings and made piston slap with one of my heads and bent a rod but I am swapping out my Ls1 for a Ls6 Long Block now my questions are.....

Can I run the Ls6 with my Ls1 Computer and harness the tru power from the motor?

Do I need a Ls6 computer?

Has anyone done this before and ran into any problems and what were they?

Thanks again.... guys This message board ROCKS!

You're bolting up the accesories from the F-bod to the LS6 right? Just use your old PCM that will work fine. To use an Y-body PCM is for the throttle cable-less throttle body.( &a few other things) There is not much differance between the 2.

Yeah all my stock ls1 accesories.

From what pace says the ls6 motor can rev out to 6600 RPM no with my stock PCM i owuld need like a tuner like hte predator to rev it more right?

And if i keep the stock pcm i wont have any problems with keeping my stock throttle body and ls1 parts then thats a good point i forgot the throttle body had no cable that would have been a head ache running around looking for parts to substitute for y body parts. Thanks

Where did you buy it from?

If my engine ever blows, i might as well plan on dropping in an LS6... No point in paying $4000 for another LS1. Im sure there will be some tuneing issues as well to get full power out of it.

I ordered it from paceparts.com yeah tuning is my problem now it is a direct bolt in but im gonna invest in a programmer i think i just cant find a good tuner i think hypertech will be my choice, my first was diablo sport but they dont make tuners for a 1998 trans am only 1999 and up unfortunatly. to harness the tru power you need to rev it out to 6600 RPM but until i tune it i htink the speed ill get will be just enought for now

Does anyone recomend a good tuner for my 1998 trans am with stock PCM?
