LS1 -> LS6 build up

This is sort of a newbie question so bear with me. I live in NE so I garage my car over the winter. I am currently thinking of using that time to do an engine rebuild/build up. My goal is to add a lot of HP that is going to be very reliable and do so without forced induction or NOS. So I thought that a building my 98 Z28s LS1 up to a LS6 would satisfy these requirements.

Currently I am looking at a kit like this: http://www.paceparts.com/product.asp...1=316&3=166899

Anyone know of any other kits out there that are comparable to this?

Aside from installing the kit, how much work and more money would this involve? Is it worth going with the ported heads for $600 more? What kind of gains would I see with the ported heads? Any advice?

Currently I have only small mods in my car. Straight pipes from the headers back and a strut tower brace. I don't care about the car being street legal, as it isnt anyway.

Basically my fear with these modern cars is the computers. Rebuilding the engine is no sweat, but reprogramming all the cars computers to get it to run after that is going to be the hard part for me. How much of this would I have to do?

Thanks for the help!

get heads, a cam, and an ls6 intake and you will have alot more power then ur ls6 and still be reliable. biggest thing is the more you put ur foot in it the more its decreasing life. mods don't kill a car, a heavy foot kills a car .

That is basically what the kit is. It just gives you all the seals and bolts you need for those 3. Is it worth it to get the CNC ported heads over the stock LS6 heads?

And yea. But I mod my car to drive it, not just to say I have the power .

I think buying a set of ported LS1 heads, a cam of your choice, and and LS6 intake manifold would be more cost effective and net you better results (a small cam should get you close to 400 rwhp, aprox - 450 engine hp). Either way, you will need to get your pcm programmed. I'd reccommend buying LS1 edit yourself, its not that hard to use and gives you more flexibity and other tuning options.
