ls1 or ls6 block

I heard on a previos post that some 00-02 camaro's had an ls6 block...is this true? How can you tell if a car has an ls6 or ls1 if it is true?

Re: ls1 or ls6 block

Some of them got an LS6 block. On the passenger side top/front, there is a small section where an LS1 has a "Bullseye" and the LS6 does not. Thats the easiest way to tell right away

Re: ls1 or ls6 block

For 2001 fbodies, the ls6 block is pretty rare (around 10% got them) but for 2002 the number skyrockets to around 25% of the fbodies got one. Just goes to show that GM had definitely planned the demise of the fbody early and used overstock of LS6 blocks to compensate for understock of ls1.

Wouldn't there not be an understock of LS1s due to LS1 Corvettes being made for 2 more years and also the GTO?

Re: ls1 or ls6 block

I wonder if after 2002, all LS1's received an LS6 block because mine doesn't have those bullseyes. I do have the 241 heads though. Anyone else here have an 03-04 LS1 they could check???

Cool Re: ls1 or ls6 block

Well after reading this I had to go and look, I have a 2001 SS. I don't see anything on the block. Now I do have a 241 on the head, what does that mean is it not common. Thanks! good information that I would never have known without all you're help.
