LS1 HP In reality?
Ok, I have a 1999 SS M6 bone stock. I am wondering if any knows how much HP the LS1 really has at the flywheel. I have read GM underates the Camaro so the Corvette can be the top dog. Has anyone ever dynoed a stock SS LS1?
There are lots of dyno #'s out there for LS1's, ranging from ~280 RWHP upto ~320 RWHP, depending on the year and the transmission. Typically, '01/'02 dyno higher, and M6's will dyno higher. There are exceptions to every rule though. Average #'s are 300~ish
.
.
flywheel HP for the stock LS1 f-body tends to be around 335-345 (all of them im not talking about SLP "optioned" SSs and stuff only)
as you said the LS1 is heavily underrated in the f-body because it would look bad to have a $25,000 Z28 advertised as being as powerful as a $45,000 C5....
take a stock C5 and a stock LS1 f-body with the same transmission (for comparison, since M6s dyno higher than A4s in general)....i can almost guarantee they will come out EXTREMELY close....

I'd be pretty confident in saying a '99 M6's true output at the flywheel is somewhere between 350~360hp. I dynoed 330rwhp a month back. At a 15% drivetrain loss, that matches up to about 390hp at the flywheel and I haven't done more than 30~40hp worth of mods.
Thanks, SSpdDmon. By the way, loved your web site. Very nice looking SS! Mine is Black M6. Maybe I said this already, I have ordered SLP LM and "Y" pipe and SLP CAI with Slp lid and bellow. I can't wait till it gets here! Thanks again.

that looks like you are figureing 15% for the auto and 18% for the manual..
The numbers I like to use are 15% for the auto (.85)
and 12% for the manual (.88)

Now back to the original post. .I commend you on wanting to find out the numbers before you mod. I will also suggest to you that you learn to drive your car better so when you do get the mods, you will get the most out of your mods..
And this is nothing against you, its just what I tell everyone.. I find that most people who actually go to a track to learn to drive their car will see a huge benefit which outweighs mods alone.

You should list your site or get one setup too (Cardomain's free and easy).

No, I am not that sure, however doing the calculation using your numbers, the A4 is producing more FWHP than the M6. There should be more of a horsepower loss with the A4.

And nobody knows the EXACT losses of the M6 and the A4. I'd estimate the M6 anywhere between 12-14% and the A4 15-19%. That's why crank horsepower numbers are almost always estimated, unless someone actually takes the time to pull their engine and run it on the engine dyno.
