ls1 HP +++++
I just purchased a 2k2 z28 m6 a few days ago, and am not looking into performance mods. what would you all recomend as far as max HP ++ for the $$??
I was thinking something along the lines of a full exhaust (if anyone has any recomendations please let me know), I was also thinking of airbox/air-intake mods. let me know what you all think!
ps- what is with the "skip shift" light...? what is the reason for it?
ps- stock MPH is limited to 110, i believe, is there a way to void this?
ps- anyone know aftermarket aluminum pedals that will work with this car? I have a set, but the gas pedal does not mount properly..
thanks!

First off, congrats on buying an F-body and welcome to the board.
As far as air intake and exhaust, those are definately the first mods you should consider. Go for a high flow lid and a Holley Powershot filter, and your choice of a catback exhaust system. There are many catback systems to choose from, you have to decide for yourself which is best for you. I personally went with a true dual setup with no mufflers, and I love it.
Moving on, if you think your Z28 is limited to 110 mph...well, just try going past that. Believe me, you can easily go past 110. Try it, before you know it you'll reach 120...130...140..150, oh damn I better slow down!
As far as the skip shift light...I don't know "what's up" with it either. Definately a royal pain. It's designed to supposedly prompt you to shift from 1st gear to 4th in order to achieve maximum gas mileage. However, i've found that all it does is seriously bog the engine when you move into 4th.
Again, congrats on the new ride

To modify the the speed limit, you will need a GM reprogram ... if they will do it at all, failing that the LS-1 editor can do it ... $$ ..
The idea behind the aluminum shift pedals is to place the brake and gas pedal closer together and also to raise the gas pedal up a bit, so you can more easily press on both the gas and brake at the same time ... makes for smoother down shifting ...

Your speed is limited to 110 most likely because you did not get Z rated tires. I would not want to try to go over 110 w/o them although you would probably be ok. Get new tires and then reprogram the top speed limiter w/ HPP or LS1 edit. If your car came with Z rated tires, the top speed should be 162 or 163 where the computer shuts off fuel.
Also, I don't know if the car is new or not, but I would go easy on it for the first ~500 miles or so if it is. Have fun

If he has an M6, I don't believe he could get the non-Z rated tires from the factory. If I am correct, the only cars that could get the 235mm tires from the factory with the 110 speed limiter were Automatics with 2.73's.

most people get a lid first then filter or both.. holley powershot filter seems to be the filter of choice only because its meant to fit.

idea was to avoid gas guzzler from what i have heard. i dotn mind it as i get great gas mileage and never worry about lower power issues..

yes it seems you have non Z rated tires.. get some now that your car is new.. maybe get some tire store to trade ya those tires plus cash for new Z rated ones.

Sorry I missed your question

I have a set of Mallory Billet pedal covers, from Thunder Racing, they work well. They got the gas pedal and brake pedal much closer together and raised the gas pedal about 1/2 of an inch, makes it much easier to rev the engine while still on the brakes.
Hope this helps

Cars with Z-rated tires have NO (or at least a hard to reach!
) speed limiter/governor. Without Z-rated tires, then you're limited to ~110MPH. I believe that most, if not all 2002 Z28's & T/A's came with Z-rated tires from the factory, therefore you can well exceed 110MPH (I know I had my car running in the neighbourhood of 155-160MPH one night!!!
And I've got an auto w/2.73's).
As for performance mods, aftermarket intake & exhaust systems are certainly good investments. My car showed a little over a tenth of a second difference at the track when I added the aftermarket airbox lid (which cost ~$200 CDN). Also, tires and other suspension modifications may be necessary depending on how serious you get about performance/racing. There are also a few "free mods" you can do to your car. Try doing a search for "free mods" on this site, and hopefully you can come up with something.
FYI: all cars with the M6 (like yours) come with 3.42 gears. Automatics can come with either 2.73's or 3.23's (the "performance" rear axle). Oh yeah, and they all come with lots of power too!!!
Enjoy your car dude!! Congrats, and welcome to the club!!
