Well I didn't mean the hotcam would cause ptv problems. He just seemed like he was having trouble understanding what mike was saying

Phantom, If I bought rockers, what brand 1.8 would you recommend? I am looking in the $300 range?

Would I need any kind of extra tuning for these? That is a pretty easy install, correct? I think the most important thing was the torque specifications. Lemme know! I may invest in some. Seems like a 2-3 hour install...

Re: LS1 hot cam opinions?

installation of the rockers themselves is a snap. just pull them off and bolt them down, tightening to 21#s.

the bigger problem is whether your springs can handle the added lift.

if you went with something like the 918s you'd be fine, but if you stayed on the budget side and did LS6 spings...you may be pushing the limits.

changing the springs with the heads on is alot more labor intensive. although i did it on my car in a few hours.

What tool did you use to change the springs in car? I hear some of the generic spring tools strip threads or don't give enough clearance to work with engine in the f-bod's..

Re: LS1 hot cam opinions?

I did use the LS6 springs. They were yellow, and from SDPC.com

A friend in our club did a cam install weekend, and we hung out for a couple of days, installing everything. The cam install was the easy part. The springs took forever. The keepers drove us crazy. He had a tool made that really worked well, just time consuming.

Can those springs handle the extra lift I wonder?

This car is not a drag strip car, and isn't raced. It is a pleasure driver to offset my crazy modded 95 Z. A cruiser. So it won't be dogged all the time to the rev limit or anything.

I would love to get more ideas on this, thanks

I wouldn't use the LS6 springs even on a cam that size. The addition of the 1.8 rockers wouldn't be a great idea on top of those springs, either.

So does valve timing events and how much advance is ground into the cam.

Re: LS1 hot cam opinions?

Greed4speed reccomended to me to get the patriot .650 dual springs, and i'm going to be running an F11 cam, lift is like .580/.595. Allen from futral said I'd be good for around 40k miles with a cam like that and any good .650 springs. It didnt cost much extra, so when and if you do the rockers, pull out your ls6's, sell those on ebay or something, and invest in some stiffer springs.

Seeing how you can get the Patriot Gold kit w/ Ti retainers etc for $250 shipped, I wouldn't touch overpriced 918's that have been known to break.

But for the hot cam, LS6 springs will do fine. You can pick them up from SDPC for under $60. LPE even recommends them , sells them in their GT2-3 cam kit and uses them in their warranted engines that run this cam and it has more lift than the hot cam.

So what kills springs more, lift or duration?

I'd buy the F13.

The Futral cams aren't extremely aggressive. I think they use the XE lobe design.
