LS1 hot cam opinions?

I just had an LS1 hot cam installed by a friend on my 99 TA. I have most of the other goodies installed. Lid, headers, ect. No heads or anything. Also a good tune.

Any idea what I would be putting down? It's a fun little cam to drive around, a huge difference from my CC306 in the LT1.

Just thought I would get some opinions from anyone who has done minor mods like this one. And some thoughts.

Thanks!

Yeah, it's pretty much considered a very mild cam....but, good if that's all you're looking for. With a set of heads, you might be able to hit 380~390rwhp. Without, 360~370 is usually where that cam ends up IIRC.

Thanks for the replies! I have a *mail* order tune right now from my buddy Jeff C. at CAM. I'm sure a dyno tune would yield more for the car. But at least now I have an idea of where it is in the HP range I may do heads sometime in the future!

Where've you been hiding?

Leave the stock rockers alone. You don't want to take a chance of having PtV clearance problems by upgrading to a higher ratio.

My cam-only Vette (the previous one) did nearly 415 rwhp through the T-56. Not sure if you have a 6-speed or auto, but even a small cam like that should really wake the car up!

Re: LS1 hot cam opinions?

My opinion.
There are better grinds out there, but from what I've seen the price of the hotcam kit is pretty good.

Yes, there are some hot cam cars making the power of larger cammed cars, but not all of them. Just don't expect it.

For longer rockers, it would have been much less expensive to have a cam with the higer lift ground in it installed in the first place. Why spend another $600 for rockers when a cam could do it all for the same initial price?

Hey there Mike! Long time

It did wake it up! Very fun to drive And that is what it is, an extra driver.
I left performance and show to the LT1

Thanks for the replies all!

Re: LS1 hot cam opinions?

I bought my car with the hot cam kit. It runs/sounds sweet, but I just wish they would have went with a more agressive cam. And I dont feel like installing one myself.

Are you saying higher ratio rockers could decrease PTV clearance?

Re: LS1 hot cam opinions?

yes, decrease the amount of distance from the piston top to the valves, and could possibly make them collide... which is bad.

Re: LS1 hot cam opinions?

Just a FYI.. A hotcam with a 1.8 rocker is only .556 lift and .571 with a 1.85.

Im running .605 lift with no piston to valve issues.

The hotcam has nowhere near enough lift Angie... Please dont listen to these guys.

Duration plays a role in PTV too...not just lift.
