LS1 help?
OK i found a 99 ls1, 6spd, t-tops. perfect car it is mint. But, the milage is quite high, its a little over 157k.
my question is is this mileage bad for an ls1, and what should i be looking out for that may go soon, or is known to go around that high of mileage?
any help is greatly appreciated
and the guy wants 5k for this car, is it worth it? everything is immaculate except the mileage

Chances are, with that high milage its mostly highway. If the car runs smooth, doesn't smoke, doesn't leak, and all of the fluids have been changed regulary I wouldn't worry about it.
Now, the "soft" parts you need to think about because some of them may start going out. How many miles on the clutch? How do the suspension joints look? Any slop in the steering? U joints popping? Any seals leaking? Are they the stock shocks?

Ya, my wife's 01 grand am had 176k miles before we sold it to her sister. It looked and ran like a car with a third of the milage, but it did have som esteering slop. Just recently had a fuel pump relay go out. Stuff like that is going to start going bad. Just something to think of before buying a high milage car even if the drivetrain and body is in great shape.
LS1 what? You didn't specify.
5k might be good for a TA, but maybe not for a Z28 with that mileage.
With that much mileage, you can expect to change a bunch of old parts including the suspension and electrical things like window motors, doorlocks, other various buttons, also check the AC, heater, trans/motor mounts, etc.
Give the car a thorough look-around before you buy it.
Mine has high mileage, too, but it has a newer 02 motor, newer Eibach springs, newer Bilstein shocks, new BMR subframes, BMR LCAs, BMR Torque Arm, BMR Panhard Rod, new AC components, new seats and dash, etc.
I honestly wouldn't buy a car with that much mileage for that much money if you still have the original stuff in it.

i would keep looking. there are plenty of m6 ls1's for sale for around 6,000 that have under 100k. your looking at $500 dollars for a decent clutch if you do the labor your self. not too mention all the suspension work mentioned above. There are several in that price range near me that i have checked out.
My 99 has 1997xx miles on it now. As far as I can tell its still the original motor, and it runs just fine. In fact it outran my buddies SS with the same mods as me, his only has 40k on it. Its just a matter of how well it was taken care of, unfortunately, unless they kept records, you just kinda have to take their word for it.
The only thing Ive gone in after that I attribute to the mileage, was the axle bearings. If a car has that kind of mileage, its highway for sure. They dont get that from a dragstrip.
