LS1 - Heat Extractor mod

I drive a LT1 but I figured I'd contribute the LS1 crowd. A friend of mine recently did a heat extractor mod that was unique IMO. Him and his dad documented and took pictures of what they did.

check it out on my web page. tell me what you think of the mod.

I couldn't read the graph real well...

I dont think I want to cut my hood

Is there a NOTICABLE Difference in engine Bay temps?

The only reason I really think I would do it , would be if it cooled the leg area of our cars down (I burn up in these damn cars without the A/C on)

Anyways interesting Idea.... Does he have new Thermastat (160* or 180*)

One last thing the girl in the web page background is way hot.

I think he has a stock thermostat. He said he couldn't really tell a difference in temp when sitting at a stop light, but flying down a country road he said the temperature dropped considerably.

yes, the chick is hot

Nicely documented project but as a first trial to see if venting the engine bay reduces underhood temprtatures, why not just remove the rubber seal that runs along the front edge of the scuttle panel?

Because it's there to keep engine fumes out of the AC/heater intake??

I did something similar on my 70 SS. I shimmed up my hood like a poor man's cowl induction. It does keep the engine bay a little cooler when cruising. The problem was when up at speed the hot air form the engine bay blew into the windows. Cowl induction hoods don't do this because they're not open all the way across. The way this guys openings are they're close to the edge of the hood so he may experience the hot wind effect. At least he probably has AC though.
