Post Is LS1 Edit Superior to Hypertech Power Programming?

Just wondering if a HPP is a better choice for a lightly modded car or is LS1 edit in the hands of an experienced tuner a superior choice? I'm asking because ive heard that if you have a lightly modded car you dont need LS1 Edit unless youre starting to do serious mods where the computer would have a harder time adapting. Also is LS1 edit capable of adjusting parameters such as shift points and shift firmness? Thanks in advance for any input.

Actually if you don't have a converter or a gear change I wouldn't buy one. You don't really have a need to change that stuff if the cost is several hundred.

I have a hypertech prgrammer for my 2001, and it definetely makes a noticeable difference. All the little things add up. just wondering, where can you buy ls1 edit? Ive heard that a hypertech is bad when running the juice...

I am not buying LS1 edit personally. A friend of mine is opening up a tuning shop and he already has LS1 edit. If this isnt a good idea what would be a good next step besides the mods I already have.

I'm not as familiar with LS1 edit yet, as it's so new (and no experience with LT1 edit either).

I know for HPP, their is often a toss up when discussing its value. It's good for speedo changes from gear swaps, and maybe shift point changes, but in terms of gains from using its power tuning feature - some people gain hp, others lose hp (causes detonation).

If you're going to spend the money don't waste it on a hypertech, get LS1 edit that does everything, not just a few basic things.

Well, you knew that I couldn't let a Hypertech thread go by without my sticking my $0.02 worth in here

I have no experience with LS1 Edit. I mean, I just spent $300 for AutoTap and now I'm supposed to blow another wad of cash for LS1 Edit? (note the scarcasm)

I've been running the Hypertech tuning in my 2001 Z28 since June of 2001 and aside from some early bugs in the beta programming, it's been great. It makes a huge difference in the way the car drives, and I got a 14 RWHP gain from the power tuning alone.

As for LS1 edit, it is my understanding that you can do everything the HPP can do, and even more. However, there is something to be said for the learning curve. You'll have to learn how to properly tune the car with LS1 edit ... lots of trial and error. But, with the HPP, it's "plug and play".

With the HPP, you're stuck with what Hypertech issues as a baseline program, set up for the lowest common denominator because not all cars are the same. With LS1 Edit, you can tune what works best for YOUR car.

So, in the end, it comes down to how much effort you want to put into the tuning.

You will be in for a rude awakening if LS1 Edit is anything like LT1 Edit. Last time I checked there is no manual that explains the many different settings.

That's right, no manual, same as with LT1 editor. Is it because of legal liabilities??

Ok here is what I know(which is not much) if you plan to do only BASIC mods(lid, exhaust, gears etc.) then the HPP3 will probably work for you although I hear stories both ways. if like me you plan to do or have done cam/heads,fuel system up grades, aftermarket MAF and TB, gears, forced induction(ie:juice, turbo, etc)then IMHO you should seriously(spl?)look into LS1edit because HPP3 will NOT help you out with these kind of upgrades. Is LS1edit expensive? yes it is. but do like I did and get a small group(up to 4) of folks together and do a group purchase. if you get 4 guys together the total cost of LS1edit with a year of updates is only $237.50 each. I already have A-Tap and a laptop so that won't be an issue. also if you have custom programming already you will possibly need a new PCM or to have your current one flashed as many of the custom programmers lockout the PCM. Again it is all a matter of need. I have 2 Camaro SS's (a 2000 and a 1999) and have plans for both so LS1edit is worth the expense in my case. Also remember to use LS1edit to it's full potential you will need A-Tap or something similar.

Mods? Well...yes, enough mods to have MAD horsepower.
More mods to come? Well..yes, working on achieving INSANE horsepower.
Last dyno 336hp and 361 torque. Have done some stuff since then.
Car has gone a best of 12.64@111.67mph with a 60' of 2.15
