LS1 Cam Question ?

Well I have a question here maybe someone can answer.. Does the LS1 that is in the 98 - 02 Camaro have a Roller Cam w/ regular rockers or Roller Rockers ?? Are the heads on these LS1 Vortec Fast Burn Heads ?? Also will GM's HotCam work in this engine ??

they are roller fulcrum rockers, but not roller tip

the LS1 head is a totaly new design, its not the same as the fast burn vortec, and those heads wont even bolt up. (this confuses a lot of people I think because GM calls the LS1 and all engines based on it Vortec engines. but they arent remotely the same anymore)

GM does make a hot cam for the LS1, just be sure you get the LS1 hot cam, not the LT1...

Another Question what is the difference internally of an LS1 versus previous Small Blocks besides being Aluminum and having 6 Bolt Main (I read that in an issue of Chevy High Performance).. That mag never really told why the LS1 was different versus other Small Blocks..

Thanks for the information..

OH god, basicaly everyting is different..

like Phantom said, its all totlay LS1 specific. I know the bore spacing is the same and i have heard that the rod bearings are the same but I havent confirmed that.

the bore is smaller, stroke is longer (than a 350) 3.91 x 3.6 i think.

rod length is different

oil pump is at the front of the engine, it slips over the crank snout.

cam is bigger and gun drilled.

head ports are all the same, (no more EIIEEIIE, now its IEIEIEIE)

um.... lots of other stuff that isnt coming to mind right now...

Personaly i would go towards the hammer cam rather than the hot cam from gm. It is a stealth cam, and pretty impressive.
