Ls1 Cam

I am looking at getting a cam.

Can anyone explain to me what valve timing is?

here is the information I have.....grind # slp220-119.5.....intake dur. 220........ex. dur. 220.......lift is .530 for both in and ex ....lobe center seperation..119.5.......recommended intake center line.. 115.5..... i do not have valve timing specs..... this is a mild cam that has a good dealmore lift and duration than stock, however i believe the valve timing is not as radical as most performance cams and will have a smooth idle. i would not use this cam on a heavily modified motor. this is more for stock head and bolt ons. do not really know what type of power gains one will get , i would imagine 15 to 30 horse. hope that helps

I have a 98 TA A4 w/ Lid, catback bullet muffler, and tuning. What gains will I see doing this cam, before and after tuning and could I do this cam at all. Also what kind of drivability would I see in this, and what would the differences be from stock.

please elaborate. Is this an opinion, or what... What exactly do you mean.. At the lift that it is at now, what are the pros and cons.

Stock lift is .500, so .530 is a HUGE difference. Plus everyone always says you need more lift. More = more power. So yeah, needs more lift!

to much more lift and its gonna be TOO much and ur gonna need some aftermarket components for your valvetrain etc. the GM hotcam is a nice mild cam that works well with stock parts and makes a decent amount of power (well enough to mayb justify the upgrade ..or so i hear.

and all i gotta say is when i get the money... heres my b1ch:

Thunder Racing Custom "Reverse Split" Camshaft - 230/224 .575/.563 111 LSA 2200-6800 RPM Power Band. Excellent mid-range & high RPM power. Automatic cars require computer tuning and it is recommend for optimum results on manual transmission cars . Due to the fast ramp rate of this camshaft, the use of 1.8 rockers is not recommended.

The TR220 is a well proven street cam that is not tempermental, runs fine without computer tuning, produces good horsepower, and doesn't destroy your mileage. I think you are making an excellent choice.
