LS1 block limitations
Well,, you can't bore the block,, however you can stroke this bad boy to 383 c.i. More aftermarket pistons, cams, and heads are being manufactured every day.. Just ask yourself this.... What other "iron block" or even aluminum block out there has 5 bolts holding each main bearing cap to the block.. that sounds like indestructo to me.. If you read GM High Tech Performance magazine,, there are many LS1 cars frequently running in the 10's.. and street legal too!! Maybe you should think about campaigning a top fuel car if Ls1's don't pop your cookies!! I mean,, you could be STUCK with trying to make a Ford(sic) get out of it's own way!!
5-bolt mains??
I thought they were 6-bolt mains?! (4 in from the bottom like a typical "4-bolt main" block, and 2 in from the sides). Unless someone can prove otherwise, I'm sure there are 6 (six).

Sorry man... gotta read up more on the motor. Lingenfleter has bored and stroked the block (by using thinner steel sleeves) to 427.6 cubic inches. It has 6 bolt mains. I would imagine that the bored and stroked block should have a girdle on the bottom for safekeeping but I really dont know. The lingenfelter 427 motors put out about 550 na daily driven hp and they are by no means the extreme capability of the motor. Strapping a supercharger or turbo on that setup (with appropriate pistons/headwork) should put you at a safe 800+ hp. That would be a very expensive, but very streetable H.O. LS1.
Yes,, my mistake,, they are 6 bolts for the main caps.. wrong # key I guess.. As far as the stock cylinder bores go,, I quote from Hot Rod Engines Magazine Winter 2002 Special Edition, page 80-81.. "Though the thickness of the cylinder liners preclude enlarging the size of the bore,, the engine can certainly assume a longer stroke... In fact, Lunati has devised a package to yield a volume of 382 c.i." I guess I was under the idea that you were talking about achieving more power without the need of making John Lingenfelter a billionaire.. These blocks are not meant to have the cyl sleeves removed ordinarily as you would a KB block..
