LS1 is actually LS6
LS1 is actually LS6
I was on the web the other day and saw a post about a certain number of f body cars that should have had LS1 engines in them but had LS6 engines because of overproduction. It gave a casting number on the engine to look for to see if you have the LS6. Now I can't find the link with the info. Anyone out there know the info?
heheh yet another LS6 block post.. .gotta love them..
yes.. the numbers are something like 25% 2002's and 10% 2001's that have the LS6 block.
The LS6 block has larger windows from cylinder to cylinder. This was to allow the gasses in the downstroke a place to go..
Does it help? Hmm.. time will tell. I think it certainly didnt hurt.

As you can tell I'm brand new on this list and I'm not aware of prior posts. I'm asking because we bought a 2001 WS6 motor for a Porsche 944 to S/B Chevy conversion and just wanted to check on the block. Still need the casting number that the web site showed and I forgot to write down.

As for your 944... What are the odds! Actually there is one in the LT1 side that has pics and everything.. Very nice swap.
I have been leaning towards using an LS1 for my 944S. I am looking for roughly 400rwhp so I can see what breaks! hehe
I have been told that my 50/50 weight distribution will go t o 52/48 with the LT1.. I would think it could be close to 51/49 with an LS1.. Lighter engine and all.. I would like to AutoX my 944 and drag my Z eventually with my restaurant sponsoring it all.
Do let me know how your build goes as I would really like to see how it comes together for you..
(btw.. I went through 3 sets of heads for my 1987 944S before deciding that it needs american muscle!)
Thanks for the replies, we will check it out. Psycho Cabbage I have a 944 turbo with an LT1 in it and it is an awsome conversion. My friend who owns the shop in Ft Lauderdale that worked on my conversion is doing the LS1 conversion and is fabbing all the components himself as no one makes the conversion pieces for the LS1 because of the size differences both in height and length. But he is almost there and when he finishes it he will be able to make the pieces available or offer the whole job complete. If you are interested give me your e mail and I will send some photos of my completed car and his in progress.
Joe, it's on the back of the block, driver's side just below the head.
I dunno how hard it is to see with a stock manifold and cat in your way but...you'll need to get back towards the middle of the car (to get the right angle). Try to see where the head/block meet and I believe that you'll see a white sticker (on the block) and the casting number is just to the right of that.
Take a flashlight.
