LS-1 article in CHEVY Hi Perf.

Page 52 of Sept 2004 !!!!

Dyno proven power gains from installing new exhaust on an LS-1.
You need to read the article to find out all the specifics but the
bottom line dyno results were....

stock baseline 295.5 hp @ 5500 rpms
311.5 tq @ 4500 rpms

new exhaust 312.4 hp @ 5500 rpms
325.8 hp @ 4500 rpms

new exhaust w/ adjusted air/fuel ratio

319.2 hp @ 5500 rpms
332.2 hp @ 4500 rpms

these are RWHP #s by the way.

on another note....there is another article in this same issue that shows the power increase from switching from a standard oil pan to a baffled one. Let's just say the HP increase was similiar to the above #s !!! I thought that was pretty cool !

Do you know what kind of exhaust it was? Those number are impressive, generally a catback gives about 7-10hp to the wheels on an ls1.

You must have meant headers then, in that case those are about normal gains.

YES, headers, Y-pipe, and all the rest too.

Check out the article. It proves alot to the benchraces that are in denial.

Re: LS-1 article in CHEVY Hi Perf.

Those numbers look right on. When I got my car tuned I went in with a baseline dyno of 291.8rwhp and drove away with 308.2rwhp. Only mods I have are listed below.

I was wondering though, if you've already had a dyno tune done and then you put on a set of Pacesetters (or insert your favoriate Header/Y-Pipe here) should it be retuned?

most places give you a discount on a re-tune. the place that tuned my car gave me two free retunes for future mods.

i would definitely get a retune if you can afford it. the headers and y-pipe will cause the motor to run on the rich side, which as you know, will cost you horsepower. my car was running at around 11.9:1 at 6000 rpm before tuning and just getting the A/F ratio up to 13:1 where it should be netted me 15 RWHP.
