Lowering Stock SS Springs??...+

Not sure where else to post this.....

My Car : 2000 SS M6

Just talked to a guy and he said I should lower my car, which I agreed. Told him it would have to wait because I need to spend my money on other stuff. (Tires, SFCs, Cutout)

Well he said he could just cut my stock springs, thus lowering the car and not getting a rougher ride, also getting better handling.

I am wondering if anyone has done this and how it feels... and how much you lowered it.

The guy used to have an 01 z28 that he said he did this to.

Keep in mind my car is an SS so i dunno if it could affect the car differently then a z28.

Please fill me in,
Cody

People have been cutting their springs for years as sort of a poor man's lowering solution. It will make your car lower, and if done right, can actually look nice, however, the stock springs arent meant to be cut, and its very doubtful you will gain any ride improvements. As a matter of fact, your car will probably be more likely to bottom out and cause handling problems.

If you want to try it, go ahead, but I would consider this to be a temporary solution, until you have the money to do it the right way.

I agree. Cutting springs will definitely lower the vehicle to your liking, however you will sacrifice the ride characteristics with that. Springs are set with pre-defined spring rate(s). This is done for a reason. I have ridden in several vehicles (ranging from imports to our beloved F-bodies) with cut springs and the ride was pretty harsh. Hope this throws some insight...

Well that helps a lot.

I was just looking at you site yesterday, looks awesome.

I wanna know about the springs you sell. How they feel and handle and all that good stuff. ($175 doesn't seem bad at all)

Also with your other products (SFCs in particular) I was wondering if you have everything in stock. Or do I need to place an order?

Cody

EDIT: Eric do you prefer PMs or emails?
