Low Oil Light

My low oil light came on when i started the car and it was already hot from being run, it was actually a quart low, i was also unaware that LS1's use oil, but anyway i put a quart back in it and that light still wont go off. how long do i need to wait for the light to go off or do i reset it some how? 2002 Z28 is what it is by the way.

Re: Low Oil Light

It should just go out. Mine has done it before. They do use oil. Some of it is sucked into the intake. There is a mod to fix it.

Re: Low Oil Light

check the oil dipstick, mine came on once and it turned out that it was about 1.5 quarts low (i dont know if it used up all of it or what). i just topped it off, started it up, and the light had reset itself.

Re: Low Oil Light

Mine's been coming on too, which is wierd because I just had an oil change not even 1000 miles ago.

Re: Low Oil Light

If it doesn't go off immediately, disconnect the battery to reset the PCM. That will take care of it no matter what. But since yours is an oil burner (not all are), you need to start paying attention to the dipstick and not rely on a little light that could malfunction at any time.

Re: Low Oil Light

It was weird cause when it was hot from driving i turned the car off and turned it back on and the light was on, i immediatly checked it and and it was right at the bottom of the hash marks so i put a quart in it. the car sat overnight which is more than enough time for the oil to settle. checked it and it was about an 1/8 inch over the marks, fired it up and light came on. turned it off diconnected the battery and after that turned it back on and the light was still on. the sensor worked properly it was the first time the light ever came on. anyway its at the chevy dealer gettin a new sensor, this is the third time i've been to get warranty work done, i hope it reveals all its quirks before the warranty runs out. All in all its an excellent car, a factory freak that must love daily trips to the chevy dealer . Hopefully this will be it for a while.

Re: Low Oil Light

Yeah my coolant sensor is bad. The light has come on a few times, but the coolant level has always been full. That's why no one should rely solely on these sensors to monitor fluid levels.

Re: Low Oil Light

my manual says the car takes 5.5 quarts of oil, so if you take it to a place make sure they put enough in, because they probably only put in 5. Also the LS6 fix to get rid of oil sucked nto the intake is a good one, but for more lazy people such as myself I find this one also works wonders http://govettego.com/mods/pvc/index.htm
