!muffler mod is. But if you want loud, that's the way to go, without installing headers or removing the cats. Also, installing a high-flow lid (whisper, SLP, MTI, etc) will increase volume.
I can do shorty headers here in CA, not sure about mids, will shorties increase volume...??? i thought it's the lt's and the mids were the only ones.

Re: Loud exhaust setup

no muffler will definetly be louder than having the loudmouth, maybe having the exhaust dump before the rear wheels so it doesn't have to snake over the axle will make it a little louder.

yes, shorties will definitely make your car louder. not as much as LT's, but... hey, whatever works. Bassani makes a good mid-length header. check 'em out.

No loss of volume, and great, straight through flow with all the benefits of LEGAL emissions.
Sorry, I realize that the cats didn't "make" the car fail, but they certainly didn't help any. I took the car out before running the e-test and got the exhaust red hot (catalytics are supposed to work their best when they're hot, not just warm). Granted, I had a Q-Jet that may not have been setup 100% on the engine, but still, nothing changed between e-tests except the addition of what were supposed to be "hi-flow" cats (you could easily see through them) but they didn't clean up the emissions any, and the car did lose power, and it was quieter, and to me, part of sounding good is also being a little loud. Not "scare-the-neighbours" kinda loud, but loud enough to at least wake them! Maybe I've just gotten used to loud cars running open headers, and wish that every V8 running around could sound like that?! Anything less is crap!

Re: Loud exhaust setup

About ur exhaust, how u think that the LM isn't loud enough, Have a friend-someone u trust, take it out for u and u listen to it from his car, have him punch it on the highway for u.
Today, i did that, i had my bro floor it when he got on the highway, i heard it comin when floored it and he flew by, WAY LOUDER than i thought it was, then he was pretty far ahead of me and let off and then punched it again, i still heard it pretty loud, now i realize that it is much louder, i bet i coulda heard that thing from a mile away at least. But i still do want it louder so am gonna put a cutout on it but i'm also thinkin of havin them cut up my GMMG and make a true dual out of it or just sellin the system and buying the chambered mufflers, can't remember where from right now though.
But before u do anything i would say to have someone take it out for u and mess around with it, do a flyby and stuff like that. It was a good lil experiment.

Re: Loud exhaust setup

The sound quality is great i think, and since u won't be goin with an offroad Ypipe u shouldn't have rasp like i do, i had a guy with a LT1 Z a few weeks ago in a dominicks parkin lot compliment my exhaust and asked me what it was and i think he planned on gettin the system even though i think he will have to modify it a lil to fit for him.
As for the performance, GMMG i hear is right after the LM and i think the LM is the best one for performance but I like the way the GMMG looks from behind, nice and shiny.
IMO it was definitely worth the money. Looks great, nice sound, good performance and very little interior drone, i hear the LM has a lot of drone. I am thinkin of trying to make a true dual out of it with the xpipe, but i think i already said that.

But u said u wanted a loud exhaust so i think the LM is as loud as ur gonna get w/stock headers and cats, even though i've never heard it in person. Not sure if u can do this or not, but i know u can't take ur cats off and go to offroads, but can u go to highflow cats, that should make it a lil louder i would think and maybe a better Y Pipe, the stock one stinks, the drivers side is flat kinda. CA emissions and smog gotta suck, i'm sure u'll find something nice though.

Onez4u2bn how u said that u want to hear it comin at u, u'll hear it better goin away from u, i didn't really hear my car too much when it was behind me but when it was ahead i heard everything. I loved it!!!
