longtubes or shorties
If you want to spend $200 plus severals hours busting your knucles for about 5hp, this is deal of a lifetime for you.
j/k - Seriously. Your stock manifolds are about as good as shorty headers already. If you're gonna do the work to install headers and Y pipe, get long tubes and an ORY (off road Y - no cats). You'll also need to use a programmer to remove the rear O2 sensors from the PCM's view. You can also use O2 simulators. Further tuning won't be necessary.
If you're just looking for a way to kill time tinkering on the car the shorties might give an appearance boost to the engine bay. Performance gains will be dissapointing though.

Don't do shorties. It's a total waste of time and money. Get either mac midlength or long tube headers. If you Plan to keep the internals of the car stock then consider the macs as a good bang for the buck.
If you plan or think you might plan to do any cam/head work on your car then get long tube headers because they will benifit more from the engine work.
But stay away from shorties unless you live in California aka the notzi emmisions capital of the world.
Good luck

sorry for the silly qwestion but,
why the long ones are not allowed in california???
it is because the loud sound or because emissions.
as you guys can see i have a camaro v6, so that's why i don't know
i'm planning to sell it next month and get a z28
thanks

It's illeagal to remove or relocate factory cats. That is a federal law so everyone with LT headers has to break it. Now a lot of states (including mine) test for emmisions but most rarely do any visual inspections. Plus cops that pull you over in most states will very rarely ever get down on the ground and inspect under your car.
Most emmisions tests are just hooking up machine to your cars computer and making sure no emissions codes are thrown. Some also add the sniffer test that checks for any toxic gases in your exhaust. You can have LT and pass both tests, you just need HF cats after them.
California is the strictest state bar none on emmissions. I hear they have the toughest test which includes both of the above and a visual. I also hear that a lot if cops will inspect your vehicle if they pull you over and think it's too loud. I have heard stories of people having a cop see LT headers on thier car and immediately having the car towed and fines up to two grand accessed.
Some of it may be BS but I know a lot of people from California have posted here saying they are fearful of LT in that state.
So that's why I said they were the natzi emmission capital of the world.

Ouch. Sorry to hear that reddevil. I had a cop pull me over the other day for sqealing my tires at an intersection. He told me my car sounded a bit loud and I need to invest in a muffler. Then he complimented me on how cool my car looked and let me off with a warning
I know some cops will get down on all fours and look for reasons to give tickets but most are cool enough about sports cars if you are cool to them.
Damn all the cops who get on thier knees. Except the blonde female officer from an episode of cops years ago. That's one I want to see on her...... Ok sorry, I'll clean this up and smack myself for such thoughts.

thanks for the inputs,
i'll not install long tube headers then
also what about the loudmouth do you guys think it would be legal in california, damn i don't know why i moved from new jersey
also i'll sell my v6, i've already spent a lot money on it and the only way to make it faster would be to install a turbo or supercharge but they're still in testing.
i know i'm getting out of the initial qwestion but i appreciate your comments
thank you

When I had my last car smogged the tech actually crawed inside the engine bay with a flashlight! Cali sucks. He checked for E.O. numbers on everything........even the MSD! He said he would even fail for nitrous, unless it was unhooked. f*cker
