Long Tubes with 3.73's?

I wanna buy some new gears, and have a friend who can install them with me since he knows what he is doing.. but I'm wondering, I have 2.73's at the moment and Put those long tube headers on.. and I feel little to no gains what so ever.. Maybe alittle more top end but I mean nothing significant. I did however walk an 03 Cobra from 10mph but he still blew past me like I was stopped when we raced from 40.. little odd.. but whatever.. I think the computer might be retarding my timing but we did Fix the Engine Codes and erase them at the Chevy dealer.. could the computer still be learning? Also we deleted the Secondary Air pump, is that going to cause me a problem? (The thingy that hooks into the Air lid and the Mainfold and blows air I believe) I clogged the whole on the lid that the tube hooks up to and the other end is just handing over the intake manifold....

My question is am I not feeling it because of the 2.73's? Will 3.73's Wake my car up big time? Can I expect High 12's? (12.7+) The car is in no way a Dog..

Long Tubes are a good power power, im thinking the 273's are probably killing the uumph factor for ya....put the 373's in and it'll be a completely different beast

Robvas forgot to include his sig, but I think his car ran something like 13.008 @ 108??

Anyway, I had 3.73's in my car last year. Do they help? Well, yes and no.

YES, from a stop, if you get traction.

NO, they won't always be there for you when you need them, because the shift points get all screwed up and the tranny won't downshift as far as you'd like, so when you're trying to race from a roll, the car may not accelerate the same as it would have with 2.73's. (I know 'cause I lost to a Cobra on the highway starting from an 80 mph roll, but the tranny wouldn't downshift out of 4th, and it took forever to pull ~120, which is normally a walk in the park with 2.73's).

By adding the LT's and getting the extra horsepower, your trap speed at the track should definitely increase, but if you put in 3.73's, don't expect your times to be any better unless you put DR's / ET Streets on the back. I ran identical to the time in my sig with 3.73's.

Im going with long tubes, true duals dumped before axel, !EGR, !AIR and 3.73s. The LTs are on back order and my gears are going in this weekend hopefully. Maybe get shift points adjusted after i see how it drives.

From what ive heard, You have to have the power programmer because after you install them and turn the wheels 1 full turn you lose ABS and spedo gets messed up a bit. I just ordered my 3.73 set from SLP. I cant wait till they go in. Ive also heard that headers are useless unless your going for topend. So with what ive been hearing from slp and Custom racer, you wasted your money on the headers cause you will lose topend.

So I should keep the 2.73's cause the 3.73's will negate the effect of the headers?

You are not going to negate the effect of headers . There should be absolutely no negative side effects form headers at all . You car is pumping out more air . Allowing it to bring more in . A lid and free ram air mod might accent the headers well .

robb4964 - I see in your sig you are running a 13.2@103 with just a CAI on with an LT1? That is an incredible time. I assume that is not on street tires? Are there any other mods, i hope my engine runs that well at 180k.

The PCM is tuned , PCM for less , and no ..LOL....that thing is usless on street tires . It was on drags " it was spinning them " I have all service records on trhe car from 35k . It has had nothing but synthetics put in it . The engine runs as good now as it did 60k miles ago . I LOVE LT1's .
Thats why High miles dont scare me one bit . I hope yours runs as good as well .
BTW , the car does have a dual friction clutch in it .
ANd I know it will run a 12 , easily . Mike is putting shorty headers on it today . Gonna see if we cant get a 12.8 out of it .
