Long Tubes
Long Tubes
Ok
Since a 03 cobra vert just gave me the race of my life, i think i am going to push the modding stage up on my car from, maybe in a few months, to ASAP. I am thinking lid, cat back (idk though i already have the dual dual from the factory), and long tubes just to start. I am just wondering how much RWHP i can be expecting to see. Probably going to go with the SLP long tubes, ORY pipe, and maybe GMMG cat back, SLP lid, maybe K&N as well. Also, would it be beneficail to get a tune right after these mods, or should i wait until the cam, heads, etc, and just get a good tune then? Thanks in advance

That is about exactly what i was thinking, would you recommend a tune after those minor bolt-ons? IDK how much HP a good tune is worth, or if i should even worry about until i get deeper into the engine, thanks.

I actually have the same problem. A friend of mine has a lightly modded 03 cobra .. Planning on getting a cam later this summer or early this fall to keep up
i would recommend against SLP longtubes just because i've heard nothing but ground clearance issues with them. there are other choices out there that make the same power with better clearance. FLP, Kooks, Hooker (FLPs being the most expensive) are all good choices. personally i went with ceramic coated pacesetters myself. cant beat $330 shipped to my door and HALF A SECOND on the track.
Pacesetters are only 330, ceramic coated, and shipped, where do i get those at? How much is the ORY-pipe? Thanks in advance. PS did you install your headers, how much of a SOB was it if so, thanks again.
Def. do not get SLP's, like said above, they have the worst ground clearance of all long tube headers on the market, I have Hooker Super Comp. Ceramic Coated LT's, and to be honest with you they dont hang low at all, almost sit at the same height as stock manifolds did, ORY sits a little lower, but still no clearance issues, even when going over speedbumps, I installed mine myself, took about 12 hours, did it by myself, then just took it to a buddy's shop and had em weld it all up, and thats about it, had a little bit of the notorious ORY banging the floorboards, but poly motor mounts took care of that, now it doesnt bang on anything. Also ive been told and did so myself that unless you want to take your car in to get the bolts re-tourqued all the time to get locking bolts, I have the stage 8 set, looks great with the shiny ceramic coated headers, I also put in copperseal gaskets instead of the crappy paper gaskets that usually come with the headers when you buy them, you could just get a set of GM steel gaskets for less, but all up to you. also if you go ORY dont forget 02 sims and extensions for the front 02's, or you could just get the rears deleted, again all up to your personal preference, sorry so long, but just lettin ya know the route i took, have fun.
I have Pacesetter's Ceramic LTs (the new design) and they slid right in after taking the bolt out of the drivers side motor mount and jacking the motor up a bit. They have PLENTY of clearance and dont knock, bang, or otherwise make any noise.
I also have a ORY and it doesnt make any noise at all.
I bought the GM gaskets for $25 and they work great...no leaks and I have regular bolts that came with the headers torqued by hand(I dont have a torque wrench...lost it) and havent had to retorque them yet after 1500 miles...hope not.
The coating is still the same so far, and I dont have a scratch on them yet, not even the Y pipe(3")
The flange is super-thick....so good for sealing
check the link in my sig for pics before and after the install
I think you should go with these and with the money saved you could spend on the other stuff you mentioned...like that GMMG which I heard is expensive.
Lastly, the sound....man it sounds great...nice and deep now.
It reduced the resonance inside the car but my friend followed my and listened to it while cruising and while I made a WOT blast and he said its one of the best-sounds he heard come from a LS1.
I dont know what kind of muffler I have, it came with the car, but the ORY and the LTs definately changed the sound. All I know is its a Flowmaster (I like the sound of them, and wouldnt trade performance for this sound any day)
I also have an M6 so the fell is the same and I can tell you its awesome.
I do feel like I lost some torque down low but now it fishtails like crazy when second hits, instead of just for a second or two, and the top end has improved.
Definately gonna help when I get the cam in
Unless I come across a better sounding muffler Im going to leave it as it is.
Hope that helps and REALLY, get the pacesetters! Its worth it!
Also, keep in mind that these are the new design, which was supposed to fix the rattle ont he floorboard problem and the clearance issue some people have been having....Mine went in like they were made for the car(they were, lol)

you can either buy 02 sims, which plug in where your 02 sensors used to be to simulate your catalytic converter actually being there and functionign properly to fool the computer....or you can have a shop(thats capable of doing it) reprogram the ECU to where it thinks they are functioning.
The 02 sims will be a lot cheaper...
