Lights
Help!
I have a 2002 Z28, which I bought last Febuary. I soon realized that at night, when I took off the parking brake, the lights would come on. Thats great, because I don't have remember to turn them on or off. Well, about a week ago, I realized that when I turned my car on at night, the lights would turn on even before I let out the brake. Does anyone know why this is happening? I really don't want to take it in for such a minor thing, but it bothers me! Thanks. Amber

If your not carful, pulling the parking brake can mess with the ABS and ASR since the computer thinks it's on. The autoheadlights have a sensor in the grill on the dash. Soem people short the wires together on that so the sig doesn't go though the sensor. There are several mods for disabling the autoheadlights and DRL's. I personally hate both and have disabled both.

You're right.....minor or not, that's odd!
Something you can check, is the parking light indicator on with the e-brake pulled?? Maybe if there's a problem with the sensor switch, the car thinks the brake is not on, therefore the lights come on (automatically) right away
. If you use the e-brake often (especially depending on whether it's an A4 or an M6) then there's a chance (since I don't know what the setup is like) that the position sensor is out of adjustment
. Check to see that the indicator on the dash comes on with the e-brake up --- it's a place to start anyway!?
Otherwise, if I were you, I'd just disable the auto headlights altogether --- I hated them on my car, and I got rid of them about 2 weeks after I had the car..............that, and the "feature" which shuts off the fog lights with hi-beams --- I disabled that as well
.Hope you can sort out your problem
.
since the car is new, i suggest getting in for service.. would hate to be out of warranty with a minor annoyance like this....
I personally love the feature and have rarely turned my lights on by using the switch.. in fact, I think i am at about 1 time every 3 weeks or so..
Some people hate stuff like cags.. I cant say that I even notice it now.. Guess its an adaptation thing.. some people are just hard headed! hehe
by the way.. since you are a female, you may want to check out www.raceher.com its a site for women who are into racing and whatnot.. not a TnA site.. just a good site to read stuff and chat here and there..

Hey guys, thanks for all of your suggestions. I realized, with all of your help, that my e-brake light isn't coming on. Well, being the blonde that I am, I put this together: For the past month or so, I also have realized that when I try to open my trunk with either the remote or the button inside, I would have to push it a couple of times. I know that when you need to open the trunk, the e-brake needs to be up. Well, that had been driving me crazy, but I wasn't going to give in and take it in for something so minor. Well, it really started to bug me. Then the light thing. I thought, this is a new car! It shouldn't be having all these problems! So, I hate the guys at the dealership that I take it to, they think that I have no idea about my car, and they think that mommy bought it and I got it. Not the case. I don't know everything, but I learning! I will admit what I do and don't know. So, now those buttheads have to fix it. Today, while trying to get presents out of my trunk, it wouldn't open. I pulled the brake up, and the light didn't come on, and the stupid trunk wouldn't open. So, I'm going to take it in either Thursday or Friday. Just wanted to vent to those who understand, and thank you guys for all your help. Hope everyone had a great Christmas, and an even better new year.

I don't think that the power trunk not working has anything to do with the e-brake not being up??
I almost never use my e-brake (since it's A4), and yet my power trunk release works all the time --- just not if the car is in gear. I'd say you've got two problems happening then. I could be something like a fuse blown that supplies power to the trunk release, and maybe it's somehow connected to the e-brake/gauge lights as well
.Since you've got warranty though, let the dealer sort it out
.
What a big pain in the *** though. I hate those buttheads at the dealership I go to, but it's right next to my house. I still have a long way to go on my waranty, which is a good thing. This dealership ran my car into a curb, which scratched the front body kit piece, then when I told them about it, they tried to deny it. I told them that I learned how to drive on a lowered chevy truck with airbags, and I don't smash over things.
They'll never learn!
