I'll stick with a lid.

Did I read that right ... a 29 HP difference? Doesnt that seem like a little too much?

Did they use a fan for in front of the car? Did you have a cold air kit in there? Did you do the FIPK run last? The reason why I asked that question is heat soak from standing still...the car needs fresh air for the FIPK to work.....there are many pros and cons with the lid and FIPK...I like my lid...even better after I gutted my washer bottle and all that crap behind the bumper. Also soon I'll making a custom cold air kit for the FIPK.....

....but you get an A for effort

good to see a test like this. it goes back to one of my points with the ram air cars (ss, ws6, and firehawk), many say the ram air isn't helping since it doesn't show up at the rear wheels, because with the hood open and the car not moving things change. i can certainly see the hood being closed causing much more heat to build up underhood and be sucked in by the fipk over the normal good lid.

I liked my FIPK over just a lid, now a lid and FTRA is better for the track and times.

Why would you dyno with the hood closed

If your car is moving theirs air flow = no hp lose do to heat.

Both are good

there's not nearly as much airflow under the hood with it closed with the exception of what just came through a hot radiator compared to the hood open and generally a fan blowing on it.

keep in mind that motors make power in proportions.. meaning its usually math based and can be seen as a percentage. The particular car there in that test was making 460+ rwhp. Not a slouch.

but the difference was something that is very interesting in that it contradicts the other findings people were posting about the FIPK. I still want to test a lid vs a FIPK on my bone stock car to know once and for all.. but this is very interesting info.

Now you all know its not possible to do back to back within the same minute runs on this comparison. but regardless of who went first or second, I have found that my LS1 can maintain a consistant rwhp reading. By looking at other dynos for this particular person, I found that he has made 490 rwhp before.. He is making 495 on this particular day. So I would believe he is fairly consistant as well..

I think this post may just save a few people some $ since they can resort to standard aftermarkey lids now..

Now to figure out a way to show the masses that a paper filter makes more power. Cause it does. hehe

Well, I guess track times will tell. And of course fans were on the car. That's standard procedure with any dyno.

Both are okay I guess, but even with the FIPK and a custom cold air setup, you are still sucking in all the hot air from the motor. Someone should try the volant setup with a custom CAI. That would be interesting.

The people who are really thinking they are getting 29 RWHP from a filter, thats absurd. I dont care. There are mild cams that make about that much. There is no way in hell you are going to make 29 RWHP from a frickin filter. Post all the dyno sheets you want

And as for the people talking about custom CAI setups for the FIPK, how would you do it? Buy a FTRA and cut a hole in that metal piece that the FIPK sits on?
