K&N FIPK installed. VERY pleased.

Just wanted to give my opinion on this kit because a lot of people have been in debate over this;

1. The kit is constructed with top quality workmanship and materials....the filter is made of carbon fiber!
2. Everything installed in an hour and a half and everything was a perfect fit.
3. Performance woke up big time. Exhaust sounds meaner and feels like over 20hp. I added a K&N FIPK in my old LT1 Formula 3 years ago and the LS1 kit made a much bigger improvement. I have a SS hood with a open scoop so that is helping with the hot under hood air problem, if it is a problem. I would recommend this kit to anyone.

I agree, I installed that and I ported my mass air meter and went from a 13.7 to a 13.2, and I have a regular z28 hood. Plus I picked it up for $275 with free shipping and the recharge kit so its not much more than a lid, after you pay for the lid, filter, and smooth flow bellow. I highly recomend it!

I couldn't be happier with my system either. I'm thinking about cutting the heat shield to allow cold air to come up from below similar to FRA. Some folks have done this posting improvements.

I enjoy mine as well....although I did some customizing to get more air....I removed the washer bottle, took out all the bumper supports and removed the AC...I'm gonna extend the tube to come down in front of the rad...like the C5....more air more power

Is the FIPK just the air filter you buy from AutoZone or is it an entire system?

It's the entire system and usually runs for about $300-$350.

I didn't know you could make a filter out of Carbon Fiber

Well I think he is talking about the tube that replaces the stock Airbox Assembly...

The filter in the kit is shaped like an oval cone. The front of the filter and the back, which leads to the MAF, is constructed of carbon fiber. Then the middle is the typical red K&N accordion gauze. Also I just wanted to point out I took my sweet a$$ time installing and it can be done in 30-45 min. The only problem I have found is now my car refuses to stay under 80 mph.

All I said after installing my FIPK was "oh hell yeah." I mean I was like WOW, I also removed the windshield bottle, put on an SS hood, did the FRA mod, ported and descreened MAF, ported the Throttle body and I already get an LS6 intake stock. My car sure as hell is breathing nicely.

You are not having problems with the ported MAF? There is a lot of posts flying around about people with 01-02 LS1s having trouble with a descreaned MAF, something to do with smoothing out airflow. I wanted to get a aftermarket one but have been scared away from it. I plan to get a ported TB for sure though. I can't even get LTs because Calif. is a little b!tch when it comes to smogging.

Well it is a fact that results do vary car to car, but in my case nothing happened to my car. It always ran a little rich (they come that way from the factory) and still does, but probably not so much as it did b4 I did the MAF mod. I didnt feel a difference and never went to the track to see how it helped, but it didnt hurt anything at all. I have heard that this mod does cause problems but I have never seen it in person, I have done it to all my friends cars and nothing happened. However keep in mind that each car responds differently. Hope this helped.

Go to www.installuniversity.com and click on install documents for instructions and details to this free mod. The problems this mod can make is some cars run to lean. I would get a set of ported maf ends instead. That way if your car runs to lean you can just reinstall the stock maf ends. A set of ends run around $ 60 for plastic ones to $90 for billet one's.
