Just put my SLP lid on had a question
Hey guys,
I put my SLP lid on, but i was curious about something. What was GMs point of putting on the i guess they are called baffles. The whole long black piece with what looks like a box on each end of it. What was the point of that??

Its supposed to act as an "air silencer"....
Basically, it was put there to give LS1 F-bodys a severe case of asthma.

without it, the engine is loud. I still have mine on thankfully. I tried going without the silencer and was not happy. Some perfer the noise of the engine I prefer to not hear it at all..

My dad's car only has a lid on it, and when I drive it, it sounds just like the day he got it...maybe I'm just use to things being a bit louder in general?

But yeah..They wanted to keep it away from their 42k car.

Throw an exahust system on the car, you won't have to worry about your hood scoop making noise.
Re: Just put my SLP lid on had a question
I can walk into a house and hear a Tv that is just plugged into the wall and turned off. I also hear every light bulb and electrical device in a room. I can't imagine the noise difference from a lid change being enough for anyone to care about. Once you're inside the car there are so many other noises from radio to axle I can't imagine focusing on the little noise of a bit more air going into the intake. Even the fuel pump is louder than that. Now I'm also thinking about just how bad the windows leak air into the cabin of an f-body . . . I can't imagine any sane person caring about the sound difference those baffles make.

The point I was trying to make is that if you're really concerned about your SS hoodscoop making extra noise (which i honestly believe it doesn't), just put an exhaust system on the car and bada bing, the noise is gone...and the car will sound a bit more healthy as well.
And generally speaking, the louder the exhaust (less restrictions), the more power the car will make. Not sure who you checked with on that one.
Re: Just put my SLP lid on had a question
I too did not hear a diff, if there was, WHO CARES! The point they are making w/ the exhaust is that the louder exhaust will dround out the extra "noise". P.S. put extra mufflers on a car to make it more quiet and then check you performance.
