Re: Just had oil change

I ran synth and started using oil. Switched back to conventional and it hasn't used a drop. So watch your oil level.

Ok on the oil change light. The computer uses a complex formula to calculate when you need to change the oil. It is NOT a counter. It uses things like start cycles, engine temp, load, rpms, length of time running for each start up, and many others. Constantly plugging the numbers into the formula to determine when the oil is ready to change. And it has no way of knowing what oil you've put in so it calsulates for dino oil. Our GTP has this same feature but it has a display where you can check the % of oil life left.

DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT leave your oil in for 150,000 miles. If you are using sythetic oil I would leave it in for 100,000 miles, no more

100,000 miles!!! are you mad?!?!?!?! You wont have a car left after about 30,000. If you drive it very nicely, slow and steady all the time and not stop and go, it is safe to wait 10-15000 miles if you using synth, but i dont recommend it. I wouldnt wait longer than 7500 on perfect conditions, 5000 on servere conditions, althought, it is best to just spend the extra money and have it dont every 3,000, your car will thank you....

How come chief

one day I changed my oil and forgot to reset the panel! After three days the light turned on askin’ me “change oil” .. ok, I checked the depth-stick (thought was too low) but it was perfect & new. I reset the panel and the light didn’t appear again.

maybe its a complicated formula but at the end we can say it’s a counter and not a device deducting particles / viscosity of an oil.

It is a counter of sorts since it does not actually test the oil but it is based on a whole lot more than just miles, reread his explaination it is a good one. If the change oil light was based on actual oil sampling inside the motor there would be no need for a reset button because it would be able to tell the oil was fresh .

I see M1 being thrown around here a lot, I suggest ALL of you do some reading at the oildrop board VERY infomative and might just save you a buck. Just because an oil is a quality product does not mean it is right for every application and the OEMs particularly the domestics do not always spec the weight that is best for your engine.
