Just got a LS1

It was not easy either but i did it I traded in my A4 1997 Z28 Convt. in for a A4 1999 Z28 SS.I didn't think that there was going to be a power difference because the 97 z28 had --hooker long tubes,K&N FIPK and a cutout already, but man was i wrong . Man the 99 feels alot faster and also feels more responsive. But I will miss the old Z. Any tips on making the new z faster will be most welcome.

Thanks,

Re: Just got a LS1

Headers, cam, ls6 intake, just the usual stuff will put you up around 400 or more rwhp. Then the fun begins.

It's funny that you guys think that you can just throw a few parts at an LS1 and it'll make 400 rwhp. Try it. It takes a lot of good parts in the right combination. And don't go quoting so and so did. Try it yourself.

Re: Just got a LS1

I put heads, small cam, ls6 intake, and exhaust and made 407 hp. So I think I do know what I'm talking about, and I assumed that he would get good parts. The ls1 responds differently than any other gm motor, 400 hp at the rear tires isn't that unusual.

Did you have to do any tuning to get those numbers?

Re: Just got a LS1

Welcome to the world of LS1's. There is plenty you can do to make the car stonger, just depends on what you're looking for out of the setup. I would start off with the bolt-ons: torque converter, headers, lid, catback, ls6 intake, pulley. It's a good starting point anyway. After that, it just depends on what you want out of the car. You can get pretty agressive with some of the heads/cam setups these days.

Yes I did some tuning. Now I'm having problems with my supercharger tuning. I seem to go from one problem to the next.

Oh yeah, raise your red line to about 6500 rpm.

Re: Just got a LS1

96-97's were called z28/ss's but the 98-02 are solely "camaro ss"

Didn't say it's unusual. Said that too many people make it sound like an everyday easy job.
You're very vague about your mods. What heads, cam, exhaust? What trans?

Re: Just got a LS1

Not vague, just don't advertise. But the heads are stage 2 CNC(don't buy) 218\224 cam, ls6 intake, slp headers, and now a supercharger. Is that vague enough for you.

Re: Just got a LS1

You have an a4 first of all get 3.73's not 4.10's, they are too deep a gear for automatics. Also get a porgrammer, predator is the best one so you can recalibrate the speedometer and raise the redline. If you can afford it a tc with at least 3500 stall. For lower cost a lid and cat-back should give close to 25 rwhp. I got mine for under $500 installed (did it myself). Sfc's should help get some more power to the ground and lt headers are a must. Also must reccoemnd granatelli maf I really noticed the difference. That should put you in the mid 12 range.

Re: Just got a LS1

First things first. Get a lid and catback. Then definately look at torque converters, LT headers, drag radials and SFC. I would just leave the 3.23 gears in. They are decent for top end, highway mileage and will work well with a torque converter and or N20.

Grats on the new ride and enjoy!
