Just Got An '02 Z28...

Hey everyone,

I just bought an '02 Z28, black on black, M6... The mods that are already on the car are Flowmaster cat-back, 4:10 gears, lid, K&N... I'm just curious what this car would run in th 1/4, or at least an estimate... The guy I bought it from said he took it to the track one time when it was bone stock, and his best time was 13.5 at 105mph... Also, what mods should I do to get this car to a 12.4-12.5 second car (without NOS).. I'm new to the LS1, so i'm kind of clueless... I have 2k to spend on it right now... Thanks

Right now your probably running low 13s or high 12s. You may wanna get rid of the Flowmaster cause it doesnt flow at all. Replace it with a Borla or for something a little less costly an SLP Loudmouth. Try some of the free mods. Throttle Body bypass, FRA, EGR, Port the MAF. You can find out how to do these all on installuniversity.com. Try and get some Hooker Long tube headers and SLP y-pipe. Not only will this help your performance but it will make your car scream. This should put you nicely into the mid-low 12s. Just make sure you have a sticky tire that can get you there. If you dont have traction, you wont get this times.

BTW Congrats on the car!

Congrats on the purchase. Most people here will say to ditch the Flowmaster for something else. I think that as long as you have stock, or near stock power levels, the Flowmaster won't hurt you too much. As for the 1/4 mile time, it's hard to say. I think it's extremely hard to hook up with the 4.10's, so that might hurt your times. Good luck!

Your most important mod should be: Tires!

Well i have a 2000 with 4.10s, borla exhaust, slp y-pipe, hypertech powerprogramer and lid, and I have run 12.9's. You should be able to run in the 12.8's with some good driving, it'll just take a little practice. The guy I bought my car from bought a brand new 2002 SS and ran a 12.9 TOTALLY STOCK, I was there to see it no joke. So you should burn at least a 12.8 with some practice. Have fun.

Congrats on the purchase. I have a black 2002 M6 Z28 as well. How many miles are on it?

Do you like the sound of that Flowmaster? If so, KEEP it. It won't hurt your stockish car and sounds very good around town. Just put a cheap $30 cutout on it for when you need the extra flow(track).

If you can hook with some nice DR's, this car is already in the high 12's at least. A Fast Toys Ram Air kit, ASP pulley, and longtube headers will easily get this car into the mid 12's(DR's) and even some low 12's(with slicks) if you are a "good" driver. And thats just with bolt-ons.

Good luck,

Mike

There is no egr on the 2001-2002 and why does everbody say that porting and descreening the mass air doens't work and you'll loose power and more than half the people here have that mod in there sig? Be aware to get into the mid 12's your gonna loss your warranty with the mods to do so. Drag radials, headers and a cam definately should get you mid 12's just don't dump the clutch with 4.10's and the stock rearend.

The car has 11,950 miles on it... I love the car... I'm the tires on it have to go though, I'm gonna invest in some Nitto's for the street, and a couple of slicks for the track... I think the nest thing I'm gonna do to the car is get the Ram Air Kit... What's a good place to get it online? Someone was telling me that headers won't really help me that much. is this true? I really doubt it. Just checking before I spend that much money on them... Thanks

Congrats on the new ride! If your car doesn't already have them (I saw it was mildly modded) I would snag some sub-frame connectors. They are a must for these cars IMO. As for headers, on a relatively stock car, longtubes will gain you about 16-22 hp.
