Just bought a SS - Hows the Ram Air work?
I had a 94 z28 - now that im alittle bit older and my license is back on track i can afford to insure another camaro - just bought a 2000 SS and dont those have more hp than the z28s cause of the Ram air??? or am i completely off haha cause i know you can buy a unfunctional SS hood for looks but since this is a real SS this is a functional ram air hood? correct? and if so, hows it work... i popped open the hood and i really dont see anything that makes it look like it works... lol sorry if i should like a rookie but i need to get back in the habit... i was a member on this website when i owned my other camaro and everyone was great so im glad to be back Thanks in advance....

ram air is designed for the air to come through the ss hood scoop, and then go directly through the air filter, creating cooler air from outside, to go faster into your engine....if you close the hood most of the way...you should see the air filter lines up w/ the cut out piece on the bottom side of the hood

I don't think the LS1 ram air is quite as functional as the LT1 ram air was. The LT1's could only pull air through the hood, whereas the LS1 cars basically could either be getting it from the hood, or by the normal means that a Z28 would because there is no seal between the hood and the filter box.

Hey thanks alot !! Makes sense - and now i remember back in the day about the "cool air" induction rather than ram air. So does it go faster than a normal z28? it has more HP right? whats the HP for a stock SS??? Thanks alot everyone!!!!

An SS is more about handling (17" wheels and tires, larger front sway bar, tighter struts and shocks) and style (17" wheels and tires, hood scoop and spoiler) then it is about power (cold air scoop and catback).

Keep in mind, that the 17" wheels and tires added weight. As did the spoiler. That negates your exhaust advantage.
Factory ratings are marketing hype. The only real way to tell is a dyno/track. I suggest getting a baseline dyno and then hit the track and get the best time you can. That is by far the best gauge of HP.
From the factory, my car was rated at 310. I put down 320rwhp bone stock.. So much for factory ratings. My car is still bone stock and I have owned it since new.

Jeez, get it right.
They all actually make 340-350.

Lots of 17" 275 set ups are heavy but not the SS ones.

320rwhp stock?? Go on a different dyno and i dont think you'll see those results. That is insane!! I've never seen any higher than 305rwhp on a stock LS1 m6
