Re: Just Bought 98 z28 what should i do?

I just changed the oil Penziol high mileage with a quart of Lucas good stuff. I did the rear dif service about 2 quarts of 80-90. i was looking at exhaust. But this is my daily driver so i dont want something to loud on the high way, but something that will scream when i get on it. As far as long tube headers are they some what easy or difficult to do?

Why not keep it stock for a while and see if any part of the car needs attention before you spend your money on mods. You say you just bought it but not how long that is. How are the brake pads, rotors, tires, etc.

The differences in performance of cat back systems is minimal so just go with what sound you like best. I've heard that the Loudmouth is a very loud exhaust so if loud is bad that's not a way to go. I would look into borla and magnaflow if you don't want too loud but there is a big price difference in the two.

1st thing to get, an aftermarket lid. near stock, cant beat the price/performance.

hooker aerochamber sounds great with or without headers. cant hardly beat the price either.

I like my SLP loudmouth as well, but Im not a good comparison. It sounds waaaayyyy different with turbo's in front instead of cats. .

Seems a little abrupt and quick to already be thinking about additional mods with a new purchase. I assume you have checked to make sure there are no actual problems with the vehicle before jumping to mods (i.e. leaks, electrical, internals etc.)? Like the others said; replacing filters, plugs, wires, brakes/rotors are a priority with a new purchase.

Re: Just Bought 98 z28 what should i do?

Just thought I'd throw in my .02

I just bought my WS6 about a month ago and as much as I've wanted to mod it, I spent money making sure everything was in order.

Previous owner gave me an invoice of work done; o2 sensors, head gaskets, valve cover gaskets, springs/valves, spark plugs.

So I decided to take care of the rest; tranny fluid, radiator/coolant flushed, brake pads, oil then sea foam then oil again and filter.

During that time, I've also spent some time detailing/cleaning the engine bay. Cleaner the bay, easier it is to spot leaks and so forth.

Still giving it a bit of time but I ordered some parts (some arrive tomorrow) and they are;

Pacesetter Long tube headers
SLP lid
UMI strut brace

Next on my list are weld-in subframe connectors and afterward an after-market catback or cut-out.

I've put some mileage on it and everything is running in mint shape so I'm confident that these mods will really wake the car up. I suggest you put some time into your Z to make sure nothing's wrong with it at all.

I'd say your on the right track of the way I and others do things when we buy a used car. Have fun with it.

Little off topic, just installed my SLP lid on the WS6, LOVE IT! Unfortunately my UMI strut brace didn't come on the same shipment as my lid. Pacesetter LT's arrive Monday

To the OP, welcome to the forum!

After your car is squared away and well, I highly recommend getting a lid right away!

You didn't mention the fuel filter. It's often overloooked because it's out of sight.

After you've familiarized yourself well with your "new" car and performed any needed maintenance, then start modifying it!

SLP airlid($90),*LS6 intake ($470 new), SLP LM2($430) or Powerflow($650) cat-back, BBK ceramic coated LTs w/ory-pipe($500).

*You can usually find a used LS6 intake in the website classifieds, or on Ebay for a lot less.
