Talking Just bought 01 ss...have ?'s

I bought a 01 m6 ss about 3 weeks ago...my 00 z28 was destroyed this past march. I have a couple ?'s

1)What changes were made between 00 and 01

2)The ss is a total stripper...no t-tops or leather, no power door locks or windows, no trunk release or dome light, no cd player or traction cntrl etc...is there away to find the build #'s specific to the cars options

3)$1000 budget for mods, where would you start?

thanks

1) The main change is the LS6 intake manifold. This gave the LS1 engine greater horsepower and better low end torque.

2) I believe if you call SLP Engineering and give them the vin#, they can tell you what options, or lack there of, the car came with.

3) Start with a lid or K&N FIPK first. Do a search of FIPK topics and you will find plenty of threads comparing lids to FIPK.

If your car is a stripper, no pun intended, I doubt it has the upgraded exhaust system. But call SLP first and make sure. The standard 2 on the right SS exhaust is better than the OEM Z28 exhaust. But there are many after market cat-back systems which are better. Find out what type of SLP exhaust the car has.

If you decide to keep the current exhaust, I would then look into an after market shifter. You probably have a factory hurst. Many on this board also like Hurst billet, Ripper, B&M, and Kirban shifters.

It does indeed have the hurst option.

It is does not have the 2 on the left (or is it right?).Nor the center exaust(was that avail in 01?)...on the factory sticker within the listing of what compromise the ss package it says something like "low restriction dual outlet ", is that any different then the factory oem z/28 exhaust?

i bought a hurst shifter from a 96SS, installed it with a Lou's short stick and i think it makes a GREAT budget shiifter...very solid and short thows...
and since you have the hurst, $55 for the stick and you are in business...or you could spend $200 for an after market shifter which still has a long stick.

if you are on a real budget...just get a cutout...cheap and good power gains on whatever kind of exhaust you get

"No the other left" It is dual out on the left. SORRY It was late.

All SS came with a cat-back. This is where most of the extra HP came from. Check the intermediate pipe (after cats before muffler) it should be 3 in. dia. The muffler is also less restrictive than OEM and happily a little loader. OEM mufflers are actually very quiet

Congrats on the new purchase! Some nice first mods are: lid, cat-back, subframe connectors, etc. Good luck!

Alright i'm confused. SS and stripper aren't used in the same sentence normally because the SS comes with all the options. I'm pretty sure the SS comes with t-tops so i'd check to make sure its authentic.

Could it be the rare SS/1LE option?

look at the panel on the passenger side door. it should have an slp sticker on it telling all the special options the car came with. It will tell you if you got the 1le suspension, chrome rims, g-force tires...ect. btw all ss camaros did not have all of the luxury options such as t tops, power windows locks ect. i have seen many stripper camaro ss.

You could order a stripped down SS. It was possible. The only thing you would be getting with a stripper model is the aprearance. No performance gains, except maybe less wieght from all of the missing options.

I have an 01 ss and it has the m6. It does not have t-tops or convertible. It does have the center mounted exhaust from slp, which was available in 01. I also have zr1 chrome wheels from slp. My car has some different options, but that is how I wanted it when I ordered the car. If anyone has any questions just let me know.
