Are JBA's the only 50 state legal header...

...or are there any more? I just sold my 93Z28, I had to get it smogged, and boy, were they **** retentive regarding the visual

Anyway, obviously the 93 passed the visual, due to the JBA's and the CARB exempt number right on the header, so that was cool, they told me that they have failed a few f-body owners that had headers, either shorties or long-tubes that had no CARB #, so dang, I am NOT going to go down that road if I don't have to.

Having the JBA's on my 93Z did make an obvious difference in performance, so I wouldn't have a problem buying a set for my 01SS, JBA has dyno #'s showing an increase of 12.2 hp over stock 99 f-body, however I was wondering if there are any other manufacturers out there that make headers that have CARB exempt numbers...???

BBK and Hooker are the only other companies that make shorties for LS1's. Edelbrock might make them, not sure. JBA are the only with the CARB numbers, but I heard BBK are start going putting them on theirs. IMO, I would only buy the BBK, they have the 1-3/4" primaries like on the LT's, compared to the 1-5/8" on the JBA and Hooker shorties.

You seem to have found a really **** smog shop. Many could care less if you are missing CARB numbers, or if you even have LT's.

Edelbrock has the CARB # ... and yes the smog shops willl ask for the CARB # ... if they are observant enough to notice that they are AM headers ...

My hooker shorty's have a CARB # right on the headers. I'll be installing some LT's next week(no emmisions in MI) so they'll be for sale soon. They were on the car when I bought it. PM me for more info if interested.

MANY people here have LT's. Either the smog shops don't care, or they switch them back to stock before testing, and then put the LT's back on after testing.

If BBK shorties are CARB exempt, then I would definitely buy theirs as opposed to the JBA's. Too bad AS&M don't make any CARB exempt shorties for the LS1's...

You may be right regarding me going to an **** shop, and, I don't want any unnecessary drama, know what I mean? If I had all the tools & a garage big enough, then I would have no problem to keep switching headers over & over again every other year, but boy, that sounds like a bee-otch. I'm too lazy!

I'd rather get stuff that's CARB exempt, and not have to worry about anything. But the BBK's with the 1-3/4 as opposed to the 1-5/8 from JBA's would provide better exhaling for my LS1.

You have 5 options ....

1. Switch out the headers for testing ...

2. Register the car/live in a location that doesn't have the Smog II requirement ...

3. Register the car out of state ...

4. Hope the smog shop doesn't notice ... getting very rare now, since the fines to the shops are very, prohibitive coupled with specific training of what to look for to determine if a car has been modified ...

5. Register the car as non-operational and trailor it to and from the track ...

I just found out that the BBK shorties are now only 1-5/8 primaries, don't know why they changed, but they did.

Not sure where you heard that. Tybrne still says they are 1-3/4" Maybe not updated.

If thats true, I would probably go with Hooker, great price and have the CARB numbers
