Instrumentation Questions

I have always heard that the stock tach sucked. Now what I want to know is this because the PCM is not taking readings right or is it the tach itself? Thanks for the responses in advance!

The stock tach works OK if you're not going WOT.
Where they suck is that at WOT the motor revs faster than the tach sampling rate so the readings lag behind and you hit the rev limiter before the tach catches up. So you just learn your car and shift at the tach reading that =s just short of the limiter.

So are there any aftermarket tachs that work with the stock computer that work good? I checked AutoMeter and they don't make one. Thanks I appreciate it.
